The problem is on that map number 2 is complete no go mainly due to the tide, at low tides the water level is almost gone and for a ship that size it'd just sink, from just a logistical point of view i really don't see how the ship could be docked anywhere near the city centre unless like the belfast was fixed a distance away from the docks and further into the humber and then jetties constructed but due to the strong tidal and wave system in the humber and the extreme cost i just don't see how it's possible
I didnt say I lived in a house boat just that house boats can have doorsteps. We don't call them caravans, mobile homes or the less flattering trailers.
TC , theres a daily war going on most days in that City , dont think you need a metal boat to commemorate it . safest place is probably in that boat of yours anyway
I don't think any of those spots are practical dazzar, one and two are definitely too small and they're not going to stick it next door to a residential area, so three's out too. Fact is, it's just too big.
The Humber Quays stretch is quite big, not sure how big in comparison to the ship it is though. I thought 2 would probably be too small, but 3 could perhaps be more of a jetty off from The Deep's car park? With plans to regenerate the Albert Dock area in the future, could it go there/would it fit in there? I know its a bit from the centre, but with regenerated facilities & a cruise terminal there, it could in the future have a decent footfall. Plus, if an attraction is good enough, people will go to it anyway, no matter where it is located. I went to the Humber Car museum last year... its in the middle of a random industrial estate off New Cleveland St, yet they had buses of people from all over turning up. That museum should be on Humber St.

Heck, it is big then. Sounds like a jetty or Albert dock could be the only options. I imagine a lot of the funding will have to come from European Development Fund.
It would be fantastic to see this great ship moored in Hull. I was lucky enough to serve on the Illustrious for 2 years when she was in active service. Not sure people would want this as a hotel once you see the size of the mess decks and bunks though!
It would save a tremendous amount of imagination and fantasy about using the Hull dock facilities to berth a vessel the size of the Illustrious if you landlubbers understood some facts. 1. The data below was formulated from information provided by Associated British Ports. It details the maximum size of ship that can enter through the lock gates and be berthed in each the individual docks in Hul. King George & Queen Elizabeth Docks length 199 m Beam 25.5 m Draft 10.4 m DWT 34,000 River Terminal 1 215 m 32 m 6.5 m 12,000 Alexandra Dock 153 m 23.7 m 7.9 m 9,000 Alexandra Dock extension 122 m 19.7 m 7.9 m 6,000 Riverside Quay 30 m 4.5 m 4,500 Albert & Wm Wright Docks 122 m 22 m 7 m 5,000 2. The Illustrious is: Length 209 metres Beam Max 36 metres and has a maximum draft of 7.6 metres and a displacement of 22,000 tonnes. It will not therefore fit (even with a force fit) into or onto any of the existing riverside quays or into any of the docks. 3. Even the European Development Fund staff would check the details of the vessels and the proposed business plan and die with laughter.
Could they move Hull Fair onto the main deck and err, "accidentally" let it float off? Food for thought eh?
