Think this would be his best position and eventually will be.

Not good good enough technique or quick enough feet for a 10

Watched him for the resrves the other nigh, where he ended up playing deeper and also as left back and right back for some of the game.Looks an INFINITLY better player, when he is given a little bit of time to think, good long and short passin, and has the right sort of size for the position too,and also reads the game well

so will he be our new backup to Lucas then?

didn't see the game but i take it that is his best position from now on, or at least where you think he should be.

so no need to get a dm in Summer, or still need one?

Shelvey has some good attributes, agree 100% not a no 10 ever.

Seeing as we'll probably accept a nice offer for any player it is safe to assume Lucas will be bought by Bayern Real or Barca.

So maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a replacement ready. Shelvey needs to work on that tackling though, he's a liability in that department

be surprised if Lucas was off bbf,

for one he can see we are trying to build for the future, and 2 he hasn't been hyped up so hopefully wont be on any ones radar.

if we had to list our important players he would be in the list, so i don't see the club wanting to sell unless it is a silly offer, and i don't see that happening thankfully.

never say never, just be surprised if we sold him that is all.

I don't see Shelvey as a DM at all! Hendo looks to have the right attributes and mentality for that position, rather than the mentality to be a creative player imho! I also don't think Shelvey's ego would allow him to adjust to that position either. There's a good player in there, just perhaps too much too soon in terms of expectation and demands at a club like ours. Would love to see him loaned to a Wigan or Norwich to get some regular game time but with less expectations, and thus a little more freedom to hone his game.

I just don't see him as a DM, he may have played well in a reserve game but I really dont think he has the right attributes to play there long term in the Premiership.

Look at this we are all way off.

Shelvey: I started as a 'keeper

    http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/shelvey-i-started-as-a-keeper

    First position?

As I say it would've been goalkeeper and then I moved up to centre-forward. I just loved diving around and making saves so that's why.

Shelvey? Holding Mid?! THat would require him to actually be able to ****ing tackle! He is probably the worst tackler in the team, always recklessly lunging and far too late, complete liability

Def <ok>, Everything Lucas has but SHelvey does not. The lad is still relatively young and I think could do well but only as a CAM. He badly needs to go on loan I feel for guaranteed first team action at a lower prem side

I'll be honest he was better playing here in the preseason.

again i simply don't believe in DMs or AMs.. a proper midfielder with step in and cover a full back raiding or agger either... a proper midfielder will stay with the play and be availabel for a pass. I just don't believe in "cloggers" like parker or "flouncy prima donnas" like aquilani

In case anyone misses it the top top players like alonso, xavi, martinez, schweinsteiger, pirlo all play this way. half thier play allows others have freedom to work, they cover so they don't need to dive in when defending and they when on the ball are excellent passers or always there for a pass.

Lads like shelvey need to learn (and most english players frankly) that its not ok to be sliding in for distance cos you were not in the right place or to be in a place where you're marked out of the game or worse just 20 yards up field waiting for a long ball so you can compete for a break down.

Can't see him being here next season tbh. We have too many central midfielders and he's been extremely poor when given chances bar a couple of games at start of season

The problem with Shelvey is that he far too good to be in the youth teams but he's nowhere near ready for the first XI. He needs a loan move.

He has not been great the last while but I think/hope him, Allen and Kelly will be like new players for us next season.
