I don't understand this point. If there is racist chanting by Man Utd fans against LFC, and LFC fans report and complain about the racist chanting, how is that "playing a card"? What's disappointing is the automatic defence by Man Utd fans, such as the blog above which wanted to accuse LFC twitter fans for causing trouble before having to climb down.
the only way jenners to get the clubs to take things seriously is to force it. The LFC website makes zero mention of any incidents. the only why we'll even acknowledge it despite all our anti campaigns IMO is to react to negative press. Just my opinion of u21 match importance. And for swarbs... i think i have to say though i respect you great... its a bit rich to pull out the playing the card line from utd after the whole events of last year. On the one hand LFc is accused wrongly off all sorts and on the other if they do report it then they are playing the card.... that's ridiculous. I doubt i'll see gordon taylor jumping to the defense of the players on the end of such abuse seeing they are who they are. I sincerely doubt jason roberts or this black players union will be commenting either. I don't mind you defending your club but just don't try throwing ****e towards the club who were on the wrong end. ....................... and finally i agree with the sentiment about flares and such at an u21 game what a bunch of sad cases. I mean come on... nothing better to do? even if it was as swarbs says "scouse B" its still grown men going to an under age game to abuse kids for a laugh. Anyone form any club getting up to that kind of stuff needs minding.
No mention of 'racist chanting on the BBC Salford Quays website. 1353: FOOTBALLThe Football Association is to look into a number of incidents that occurred at Monday's Premier League Under-21 match between Liverpool and Manchester United, according to Press Association. It reports that late in the second half of the Reds' 1-0 defeat a fan ran onto the pitch at St Helens' Langtree Park stadium and appeared to direct abuse at Liverpool striker Adam Morgan before tussling with stewards as he was led away. It also says there were also two instances of flares being set off in the stands, with one being thrown onto the pitch.
Even if it were "Scouse bastard" could be considered racist by itself. It is racially abusing people from the occupied republic of Merseyside. Seriously though... I don't see a reason the FA should punish United as long as United take this seriously... identify the fans at fault and ban them. If they don't THEN it would be time for FA to get involved. Same with us if the reverse happened. Obviously wasn't the majority of united fans involved but the stupid minority of fans. All clubs have a few thuggish twits following them. ... except Dag&Red, who don't have any fans.
Before everyone piles in, I remember when the Evra/Suarez incident was first reported, and there were several United posters on JA (who weren't at the game, natch) swearing blind that Liverpool fans were singing "You black bastard" at Evra, when even the United fans at the game said it was Manc bastard. Then there was the Oldham game and Oliver Holt's eye-witness account from his hotel room in Dubai that an oldham player had definitely been called a black bastard, yessiree, and he was there to hear it. Needless to say, the police investigation using cctv and pitchside microphones concluded it was "Manc bastard", as I'm sure this is "Scouse bastard", unless someone has evidence otherwise. Evidence that is more convincing than someone 3000 miles away listening to a streaming anyway, eh, Oliver?
That's hardly surprising. Following the Suarez/Evra affair there was the Tom Odeyemi thing, which resulted in an almighty media melodrama, only to be proven that the chant was actually "You manc bastard." We didn't see any headlines proclaiming the fan's innocence though, hence a deepening sense of injustice. So welcome to the club.
Because the underlying issues are being hidden by the constant "you're racist", "no you're racist" bollocks. Hundreds of fans, who weren't even at the game, making allegations based on zero evidence are simply trying to create tensions and have a pop at the other group of fans. You can report and complain about something without feeling the need to spread it all over Twitter, or trying to turn it into a general abuse tactic. Fair point. Tho' given how unfairly Liverpool were treated by the media over the whole incident you'd have thought they would be unwilling to use the same smear tactics themselves. Tho' maybe that's a bit too cerebral for the average Twitter user. It just seems to me that the racism issue will never be solved until fans on all sides can put aside their constant bickering and actually work together to root out the individuals responsible. Like luv and BBF says, there are ****ty people in all groups. Imagine if instead of tweeting "Look how scummy Utd fans are" or the equivalent, if they'd appealed for genuine Utd fans at the game to identify and report those responsible. We might actually make some progress in finding and charging the racists, instead of the usual 'one side attacks the other side defends' palaver whilst the ones responsible for the trouble sit on the sidelines and snigger at the situation they've created.
There will however be VT evidence of the majority of 3000 away Man U fans at Anfield singing "Murderers", who are STILL ALL ALLOWED to visits football matches, due to the bias FA (different rule for United to everyone else) and the dont give a f**k United Board. There will also be VT evidence of tens of thousands of United fans singing "Always the Victims", at numerous games this season, again nothing done by the bias FA (different rule for United to everyone else) and the dont give a f**k United Board. All those fans singing should be banned from football, if that means 20,000 fans, so be it. I also agree the handful of LFC fans who have sung similar songs should be banned also.Until that happens, it shows United are above the law with the FA,and that Uniteds hierachy dont give a f**k what there fans sing.As far as Im aware they havnt banned ONE fan for songs like this,f**kin useless. Btw, instead of ATTEMPTING to do come up with a witty reply and failing miserably, why dont you do something useful, as I have , by writing to the FA and United saying, that these hate songs need to be stopped NOW,and ALL fans singing them should be banned from all football with immediate effect if that means 20,000 so be it. If you dont it PROVES, you as well are quite happy for United to sing hate songs. If tens of thousands of LFC fans were singing these songs I would
Already wrote to the FA. Got a wonderful carbon copy reply saying that they share and appreciate my concerns and are doing 'everything they can'. Tho' I wrote to them to suggest making better use of CCTV, stewards and fans groups to identify individual troublemakers. I have not, and will not, ever condone victimising innocent people just to try and get to a minority of troublemakers. As I said before, if there is video evidence of individual fans chanting or misbehaving then they should be banned. But as far as I am aware Liverpool failed to provide any evidence, video, photographic or otherwise, of any individual fans singing these songs. The only evidence there is comes from Sky Sports, and I can't remember when it was decided that Sky would be responsible for crowd control and identifying troublemakers. Therefore, as with the individuals making aeroplane gestures at the away fans, it's impossible to punish the guilty without evidence. You can't convict anyone based on the actions of a group they were part of.
Swarbs, I respect your position on this issue as a fan of MUFC and as a rational person, who knows that this is a minority. I don't think all fans should be painted with the same brush. But in a few posts you've documented that Liverpool haven't provided any proof or that there are conflicting reports. I just want to bring to your attention that there's a picture doing the rounds of a Manchester supporter with an inflatable banana at the match. I'm not sure what else that could imply.
Haven't seen that picture, so can't comment. If it looks like it was being used in an offensive manner then I suggest you forward it to the police. Tho' inflatable bananas are pretty common in football - I think City used to wave hundreds of them at every game a few years back and they still turn up from time to time. Wasn't the City fan who tried to attack Rio at the derby pictured holding an inflatable banana just before the game? Don't remember any controversy about it then.
AhI but that was before the FA ruled that context was no defence against racism charges. Hence any 'banana' incidents post 2012 have to be considered as having a racist implication. Not my Catch 22 it's the FA's.
i keep telling you all its because they are Norwich fans. how else do you explain the yellow and green scarves and bananas
Then I suggest you report Matthew Stott to the FA for racism, given he was pictured holding a banana before trying to attack a black man in December 2012. Should be a good channel for your moral outrage
