Carroll was vastly overpriced because Liverpool had money to burn and needed a striker asap. Hasn't done Carroll any favours because at that price you expect a world beater whereas he is only a decent striker. I know a striker I would rather have and he cost a million. Shaw is never going for 10 million because we don't need the money...our price will put most teams off.

Just going through Chrome but it doesn't matter what I use. I live in China where the internet is ****e at the best of times, but it is even worse since I have to go through a VPN if I want to break the Great Firewall, which means that everything I do can be observed and/or blocked by the Internet police over here. Plus, my computer is a Chinese brand, and it was made in China!!

Basically surfing the net for me is like watching my grandma trying to use Ceefax

I'm glad I live in a country where the internet is freely available and easy to surf. I'm just making a mental note never to live in China.

Whereabouts in China are you? In the news at the moment, I keep hearing about how the pollution is so dreadful in certain areas that it's too dangerous to go outside.

I used to live over there - get yourself to a wang ba (internet cafe), dirt cheap and ridiculously speedy internet. There'll be tons near you

The internet is just one of many reasons not to live here. Holiday for a week, see the sights, that's great, but everyday life here is seriously backwards.

Yep, the pollution is absolutely disgusting. There's certain places I won't even go to. Beijing gets all the press and it is bad, but there is even worse than there. Luckily I live on the coast, a town called Qingdao, so the sea breeze keeps it relatively clean. We do still get dirty days though. Today was one. Couldn't even see to the end of my street for the smog. Only another few months though and then I'm out of here!!

Yeah used them a few times. Gets annoying leaving the house to go to one every time i need to use the internet though. My internet was fine last year, but just recently they really seem to making it difficult. They can crash my computer at will, kind of ****ed up!!

The bank ones are too classy for that comparison. The ones in the bookies are a better comparison.

I've been getting that double post problem. Not in China though. UK - 60mb (allegedly) using XP Pro and Opera browser. It's intermittant though.

He shouldn't even think of going until he's outgrown the team, something he is far from doing with the players he has around him.

Unfortunately, I think he'll go. Chelsea were reportedly after him in January and will make sure they get him in the summer if they want him, especially as Cole is near the end of his career. I would hope we get more than 10 million for him, but if Nicola finds the right deal I think we could well be saying goodbye to another 17 year old. It will annoy me, but I don't think people should be so dissmissive, it could well happen.

I tend to use Win XP Pro as well, with Firefox usually, though I have used Opera and it is impressive. I've hardly ever had a problem with double posts.

I think it's more than likely the 2004 e-machines PC I am on :) struggles these days and will be replaced this year.

As for Shaw. Never say never. If the right price comes in then it will be accepted. Then it is down to the player. if someone is silly enough to offer £20m Cortese will let the club making the offer talk to the player...........IMO.

Same at all top clubs. Every player is available but only if the offer is attractive to the club.

At some point, the sale of academy products has to stop. Otherwise, we'll never progress as a club, and will just end up in the same pointless cycle of avoiding relegation.

Read my post in Beefy's Corner on PCs. That is a 2006/7 emachine, now with a couple of upgrades. :)

On the subject of Academy starlets leaving, I've been saying all along that the exodus has to stop at some point [agreeing with Pieking here]. Saints can't say... Oh ok, one more for £10M, £15M or £20M and then stop. We don't need the money and the idea is to become a sustainable top 4 club. As I said before, look where we'd be now if we had been as well financed way back when as we are now, when we sold all of those star players, Bale, Walcott, OXO, Surman, Jones and the rest to stay alive. We were selling off all the assets.

I agree we should try and keep all the stars BUT there is a point where an offer for our home grown player could be in the region where we have to say we can buy equally as good for less. That is the model the top clubs use. They bring through their own and they keep them unless it would just be stubborn to say no.

Take Ronaldo. Love him or hate him (I hate him.) One of the world's best players. You are not going to be able to buy as good a player but at £80m it would be foolish to say no.

Shaw isn't Ronaldo and he is still unproven in reality. I would say at the moment £20m is about the crossover where you have to say we would be foolish not to sell. At the time I think the same with Walcott and Bale. Oxo for where we were was way above that crossover. But even Man U who do try and bring youth through have that sensibility that at a certain amount the sale benefits the team in the shape of securing 2 or more players for the sale of one etc. That's the modern game and whilst we all knew Bale was good I don't think any of us (let alone a chairman or manager) could have imagined he would be the best player in the Premier League at 23!!!

    Hindsight et al :)

Hey, how about we let Shaw go to Chelsea for say £20M and insist on a makeweight deal with Ashley Cole coming in the other direction and Chelsea paying his wages..?

Now that I would accept just for the look on Cole's face. :)

Sod getting Cole in exchange, go for Ryan Bertrand instead.

Plus 20 million. I'd settle for that.

In truth, I don't want any deal. Just keep Shaw and be done with it.
