Again would cost £15m, overpriced Brit

We have lots of time to scout, i think, De Vrij,Alderweireld,Ogbonna,Lovren,Diakete,Mirin,Fazio will all be looked at

I think we will sell both Coates and Skrtel as BR isnt convinced by either and we will bring 2 CBs in,and see who does best in pre season where Kelly and Wisdom will also get there chances. If we have no chance of Europe with a couple of games to go, or if we get a 3-0 lead between now and the end of the season, I suspect Wisdom ( and Kelly if fit) will get a chance at CB b4 the end of the season

again i agree. he is a good player no question but at that price you can get two genuine top defenders with a bit of preparation.

I would however have to say that we cannot wait for wisdom and kelly if we actually sell skertl and coates... need to face up to the fact its agger who's being "managed" and isn't really up to the rough and tumble in the box. I cna't see skertl going after being signed up on a long deal. I would see one arrive earlier in the window if we've brains at all.....

Just look for a 6ft 4" min warrior type who's not afraid to foul like a phooker! oh and i'd partner him base don which side he plays on... if its agger fine if its skertl fine.. i don't care!

I think the one who probably fits the criteria I set out earlier, is Lovren at Lyon, captain now I believe but been sent off twice this season also, doesnt take no prisoners

Although we seem to have quite different opinions on Coates; it is worth noting that the lad has played very, very little football at all in the last couple of seasons. Under KD he played a little more than this season, to expect a young lad who has played almost no competitive 1st team or reserve football to just step in and dominate is asking a bit much imho. In his defence you can also argue that he was playing in a totally new defensive unit (against Oldham), with no leadership whatsoever.

Not saying he will be a world beater or is even the answer, but equally getting rid now because he had a shocker (like so many others that day, who have even less excuses) is unfair.

I still believe Coates has a lot to offer. He plays for one of the leading countries, won the Copa America and was voted Young Player of the Tournament. That's quite an achievement for a 22 year old.

As Shanks said, he has not had many chances to shine and it must be difficult to adapt to a new team, in a new country, under 2 different managers and without a settled back 4which has been poor as a whole for the past season (not just him).

I'm not gonna lie - I was extremely disappointed with his performance against Oldham but it wasn't just him that struggled.

    He deserves a chance IMO.

ok so there's fair points in there. My opinion is formed based on the fact that when i looked at him day one he was playing better. I have to say after two years at the club he should have been in the gym working on the physicality needed for the english game and also at the very least being able to speak scouse.

I just think he bottled it v smith and let the guy just play in front of him unchallenged. its fairly basic to go and compete and take your lumps. So i think if before this you were not in there working on it what's the motivation to do it now? All about attitude. I want guys who take it upon themselves to force their way in. He's young but hey suarez is young enough and has done an awful lot more in his career and i think its all mentality.

I'd like him to show this if nothing else. You have to be ready to take your chance.... just have to be. Its not about winning or losing that game or about rodgers hanging him out to dry afterwards either but it is about thinking hey.. if we needed him for ten games would you be going oh no.. or would you be going he'll get it done.. it might take a bit to get in there fully but he'll do it.

We all know martin kelly when he returns might be rusty but he'll get it done, he'll be back cos he's developed that mentality. his debut in europe for 9mins was a disaster, but it was his only all at sea game for us... Wisdom as only put in when ready but boy was he ready. Again inexperienced and you'd forgive a mistake or two as a result but you trust he'll get the job done.

If coates made a rookie error or two but otherwise stood his ground I'd agree with you all. he didn't though. skertl had to take over for him and that's never good. How can rodgers trust him to come in?

With all of this Gerrez and I ( I think anyway) pretty much agree that he is very much looking like Pauletta mk II. Great player in South America, comes over and can't cut it in the prem, too slow, can't handle the cut and thrust, or the high lines.

  19. Pretty much. I'd like to see us loan Coates out, preferably to a Premier League club but maybe even a Championship side if we have no takers. Get him used to not only playing but playing against tough CF's that will rough him up a bit. Failing that, we may as well get rid because he's not going to improve sat on our bench! Hell, last night saw the under 21's take on Man Utd with Wisdom, Shelvey, Suso and Sterling all getting run outs, why not Coates too?

That always baffles me, the same with Sterling who has been way off form and Shelvey getting looks in the first team still with Suso not getting anymore chances. Something behind the scenes you'd imagine. I think Coates future depends on Diakite, De vrij, Williams and if we can get one or more of these.
