They could do something with linked with the building of the Bounty as well.

I know it's hardly a success story, but at least it's a famous incident and another Maritime link to the city.

That would literally make Hull the greatest city in the uk.. a massively famous warship almost bang in the centre!

This will be brilliant thing for the city, it will generate an increase in both revenue and tourism of the area. Reminds me a bit of HMS Belfast in London, which is one of the best attractions there.

Agree with Golaccio as well, there needs to be something on the Bounty an' all.

Hmmm..... a 'shopping centre on stilts' or a warship? Not really a tough decision.

Warship every day of the fooking week. <ok>

Sorry to be a big head, but did these people read point 3 of my recent 'Kingston's image' thread http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/194927-O-T-Kingston’s-image ?

Seriously though I hope we get HMS Illustrious and that it's only the start. People love to visit historical and Naval ships and if this part of the world can become the centre of maritime history the profile and tourist attractiveness of Kingston will only benefit.

Princess Quay was the biggest single **** up in the history of our crap city council's **** ups.

And it's a seriously long list of **** ups.

Only a handful of cities ever have the chance to stick a marina in their city centre, we were one of them and we screwed it up. Utterly shameful.

Realistically the ship needs to be moored in the centre but there is a real shortage of usable moorings for a 700ft long ship. There is no point sticking her down Hedon Road in King George Dock because nobody will go out of town and I doubt she will fit through the lock gates.

I can only see two places for her to be moored. Either moored next to Victoria Pier but I doubt the conservation lot would want the view lost by an aircraft carrier or the river side (south side) of Albert Dock where Harding Cargo Handling is. Its deep enough water and can easily fix some dolphins to hold her in place.

It has to be walking distance from the city centre!

Actually annoys me that they built that **** shopping centre on such an incredible location.. they could have built it anywhere with spare land.. the potenital for the huge dock in a city centre though is massive.. yet it's completely ruined.. Annoys me everytime i see it.. has no decent shops anyway.. only two shops i've used in there in the last 2 years are one that's also located at the KC and one that's down the next street whitefriargate.. ridiculous

Princes Quay is an oddly shaped tin spaceship type creation.

    With nowt in it!

I use the cash machine in there...that's about it.

Does it have to be in proper water?

Why not plonk it in/on St Andrews Quay?

Or the allams could purchase and use it as a training centre.. lots of pitches on the top for the 5% its sunshine.. the cargo bays for more pitches... and the numerous hundreds rooms for the equipment.. the more i think about that it's genius or.. we we just use to travel to away games<party>
