Winning the Capital One cup means that Swansea will be in the Europa Cup (or whatever it will be called by then) next season. I wonder how well that will go down in UEFA? Wales has it's own spaces and now an English space is taken by a Welsh team - I hope it creates a **** storm

Does that mean Wales will get an extra team to be knocked out?

Random, shows how stupid the rules are sometimes...

Morning all from a much milder West West London - it was a mighty 2C when I left bandit country. I think something must be wrong with the thermostat near my desk as the vents are blowing out air so hot it's like a sauna! <yikes>

I wonder what has happened to the announcement on the sponsorship of the SW corner?

Thanks for the frothy in advance AK...

maybe they're waiting for the verdict before deciding what to do....money might have to go to pay a fine, rather than the SW corner..

thanks for the caramel latte Ak :)

Going on about Swansea, what are they going to do if they get to the final of the eurotrash cup?

Do they play the National Anthems of the countries rpresented in the final?
Will Swansea be able to cope with our NA, or will they want 'Land Of My Fathers'?
Surely if they are representing England, then its got to be God Save the Queen.

God save the Queen is the British National Anthem..it's disgusting that they didn't play it yesterday...if they want to be English and play in the English league, they should have the blinkin' national anthem played!

Couldn't agree more. The Wlsh Guards are happy enough to sing it and play it, and be proud of it.
Wasn't there something a few years ago when one of the 2 welsh clubs did something wrong, the FAW dealt with it instead of the FA?
If that was the case, then why weren't they sent packing from the English Leagues and told to play in Wales?

They certainly don't want to be English - they cannot be because they are Welsh. The league is open to more than just English sides historically and if memory serves me right Swansea have competed in Europe before in the John Toshack era ?

Thanks for the cappuccino Ak - although I thought I had transferred to skimmed milk tea and no sugar - you're not helping my waistline :)

But they want to play in the English leagues, therefore they should be able to stomach the British National Anthem, shame on them and the FA for not having it played.

personally-- i hate G S T Q-- he's welcome to the parasitic leech, but yes, all welsh clubs come under the juristiction of FAW--for better or worse, i do think that jerusalem is a better tune for 'england'-- welsh anthem is proper rousing, the imperialist english one upsets as many 'english' as it nourishes-- anyway, sod that crap, watford to get automatic promotion is more pertinent....

agree, it's not the best National Anthem, but it's the one we're stuck with...and it's definitely better than nothing!

    And yep!

But not better than the Italian National Anthem, which I think is great and the best one (shading the Marsellaise). Ours is such a dirge - even so the Americans have adopted it ("My Country, 'tis to something or other....")

On the Welsh theme, even Newport County (previous version) have competed in the Cup Winners Cup Competition after winning the Welsh Cup and done pretty well as I recall (Quarter- or Semi-Finals one year?). I believe that the rules have been changed though.....

    Stuck with? Stuck with?

Give me a while to find the best version ever of the NA on youtube, and then tell me that we are 'stuck' with it/
I defy anyone to listen to that and not have the hairs on the back of their neck standing.

I wish England would use a separate anthem for when we are English rather than British - God Save the Queen is OK for British occasions but if England are playing Scotland or wales for example we should be able to have an anthem they cannot share - Jerusalem anyone?
