I don't wish to get too personal about it but do I think that Silver's excessive gushing over Vettel can produce what I'd call the Lorca effect: i.e. it antagonises people and turns them off Vettel more than they might be otherwise, just as José Lorca, Ciambella et al used to do on the BBC forum.

That said, 'the finger' is a big turn-off in itself for me, which brings us back to where we started, I suppose.

Never looked at it like that to be honest, good observation. But isn't that slightly short sited though from that side as there are only a certain amount of fans (here) who support an even smaller amount of drivers the odds of repetition is actually pretty high. Evidently sooner or later that driver will come back up again if you like it or not, either from me or somebody else.

Yeah, fair enough but I should have been clearer, it's the Seb versus Lewis and the Hamelots stuff (whoever they are) that makes it worse. I don't think there are any Hamelots left here and Cosicave certainly isn't one!

Well I don't know how we will go about with this then, we need to come to a final conclusion on what type of forum this needs to be. Do we only talk about the races? driver gossip? Future team developments? Etc...

Because everybody here has a different viewpoint on what kind of a forum this place needs to be, because it's clearly obvious a fair amount of people's views are conflicting with each other now. I'm sure cutting certain differences to other forums would be a majority (no) as I believe we have a good foundation for finding things out sooner than most major forums when you take into account the amount of people we have on here which is far less and with the help of twitter.

I didn't mean Hamelot as a sign of an insult, for me it's just a shot word for a massive Hamilton fan, or that's how I translated it since its not actually a real word.

I apologise to Cosicave if he felt that was an insult to him, my interpretation to a Hamelot is likely different to his interpretation and no intention to being a social slur on him.

Silver, I'd say post as you see fit but don't take it too hard if other members call you on it from time to time: but isn't that what you do anyway? :emoticon-0100-smile

I'd say it's the sweeping generalisations that are made (which can be done by any poster) that offends others.

Never assume that everyone hates one driver, or another driver just has crazed fanboi followers and it will all be okay. It's those things that irk.

Noted, that I do. Would be hypocritical of me to say I didn't.

*Maybe it would be best to have a single driver topic in the off forum? Would get rid of the clutter of new posts being made all over the place where it would be in one place from now on.

Hey... I really don't want to hurt or offend you Silver, nor discourage you from posting about Vettel. That's the whole point of the forum. I think you need to reel in the part that makes out the majority of people have it out for him though. I might not be a Vettel fan, but I sure can appreciate his achievements and respect his incredible abilities as I would expect the majority of the forum does.

Anyway... if anybody is truly hating on Vettel, they really aren't worth the amount if effort that you put in to defend him in my opinion.

I respect that post a lot sarge <ok>

I'm trying very hard to not dish out a serving of Sebastian with every post, when you type like that for so long it becomes habit, so any intention of sounding like a fanboy in my posts in here within the last 6 months is accidental, mostly.

Really not my intention to get any reactions from anybody, just saying what I know, or discovered with something that hasn't been spotted yet. It's a bit annoying from my subjective end with the objective view who believe it to be a sign of something of arrogance and meaning "I'm number 1."

A bit of idol worshipping, maybe.... But really as an individual I just can't physically stomach non factual claims which try to make it the objective view of society on what it means.

In comparison it's like suggesting Lewis went to Mercedes for the money, when in fact he didn't. When you look at the evidence it suggests he didn't, but the objective view would suggest he did. Eventhough they forget to remember the unreliable years at McLaren, the PR overdrive, Whitmarsh and co which were more prominent over his years than his bank balance.

All you've done is create another theory why he might do it without any actual evidence and by the laws of Occam's razor i will continue to believe that it just means "number 1" or "1st"

    That would be me then!

To be honest over the last year I think Silvers pro Vettelness (for want of a better term) has actually been more held back than in 2011. And I've noticed a fair appraisal of Ham/Alo from time to time.

Didn't have a clue who you were on about for quite a while when you kept putting IRBR lol

I've been guilty of some pretty fanboyish stuff concerning that guy with the yellow helmet. Though mostly back in the dark days of BBC606.

as long as you churn out the funny meme's (for me to steal) I'm good.

I've always been a Merc fanboy rather than a lover of an individual driver, obviously there is some drivers you get a bit :1980_boogie_down: about (Schumacher for example) but it's always been team over drivers for me. These debates over 'fanatical' driver supporters have always passed me by

True, ones own subjective view is a very important approach to take rather than be dependant of the papers and TV all the time. If it seems to be the way it looks, 9/10 it usually is the case.

But hand signs can be misleading, take example the famous V sign by Winston Churchill, without prior knowledge did he mean, peace, up yours, victory, or the age old belief with the French and English archers "I still have my 2 fingers".

If I also remember correctly that sign he does has a different meaning in Germany than here in England. I think it means we're number one, rather than just himself if I remember correctly or that I'm repeating what somebody else said in the past.

Just for the record, 'Hamelot' was coined by Miggins as a portmanteau of Hamilton + Zealot. I'm surprised Miggins hasn't posted to remind us :emoticon-0136-giggl Anyway, it was certainly used as an insult back in the days of the BBC.

I'm awaiting my call from Oxford regarding it's inclusion into the English dictionary, along with unhittable.
