Elegant stuff Matt, clear, simple - has my backing. Plus where needed judicious use of the 'not safe for work' filter, which I think I have only ever seen Northolt using.

PS Brix, I did say I was being a bit of a twat on the religion stuff....

Bring it on Bricktop and i totally respect the two mods for attempting to bring this to task. No point listed my own issues with what has happened in the past but it wasn't consistent that is clear. I love free speech as you know but if take this route then it all has to be covered i suppose and good to see you covering some of what has been disgraceful in the past. I wish you good luck I believe you are right to spell it all out and i hope after which you are seen to follow out what is decided. I believe you will have more work to do. Matt has the answer and this discussion itself will go a fair way of stopping sexist crap from being posted ... Cerny, Northolt and Loveit upthebush etc will have great thread going ... tit , bum, fanny , prick i am sure it will be a great read

I've kept out of this so far because I don't see the need for clarification of the rules. We live in a society where we have freedom of speech but realise that this carries responsibilities. We all have brains and know without it having to be written down what crosseds the line of acceptable behaviour. I applaud the light-handed approach of our mods and am appalled very occasionally at the immaturity shown by some when confronted with the views of someone who does not agree with them.

I vote for the status quo if we ever get round to having a vote.

The vote we had a few months ago gave us the authority we need to make the decisions we do. This isn't about authority though, it's about our mutual understandings and necessary clarifications on where we draw the lines when complaints are received. As I said earlier, votes don't explain much. It's the thinking behind the issues we need to attend to.

Personally, I’m not in the least bit bothered about any kind of nudity or strong language on the internet, and am a little uneasy with censorship in general. However, from both a legal and a child protection point of view I can fully understand the need for safeguards and self-control on our forum. So, in my opinion the guidelines should be broadly along the lines of:

    - Any imagery or language likely to cause offence should be labelled as NSFW and/or posted into a “sexy poll” type section

    - The limits of what images are acceptable to post with a sexy poll or NSFW-labelled section would be, crudely speaking; tits and bums and okay, genitalia isn’t.

    - The limits of what language can be used within the above section, are anything goes so long as it doesn’t discriminate against any group or individuals race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

    Simple.

    MODERATION

In response to the questions posed in the OP, it appears the board would generally favour the following approach.

This forum recognises that sexism, being disrespect for gender, is unacceptable both on here and within wider society.

However, for the purposes of this forum, the posting of images of the female and/or male form within the context of public decency (i.e. 'page 3 standard) is regarded as acceptable on the grounds that genuine appreciation / admiration cannot be considered sexist.

Threads containing fairly tame girlie / adonis type images, jokes etc., must display the abbreviations 'OT' and 'NSFW' as part of the thread title and before the title itself, e.g. 'OT-NSFW Girl/Boy of the Month'.

Whilst we recognise some users are of the opinion that this board should be football only and/or that all the 'sexy' material you could ever wish for is but a couple of clicks away on the net, does anyone seriously take issue with this compromise approach?

I've read the entire thread twice now and I'm still a little confused.

Is this only to do with sexual images or is it to do with all the other topics such as race, religion etc as well?

I think you've chosen exactly the right path here, Brix. Something you might see in a painting at the National Gallery, perhaps with a bit of humour thrown in, is acceptable. Highly sexualised stuff, explicit material etc is not acceptable

I really don't see why we need it here at all, surely anyone can type Kelly Brook into google if that is what there are after, but, to answer your question, no issue.
