This guys name keeps coming up in the transfer rumours. He has been linked regularly with us, Spurs and Everton.

Stefan de Vrij is a Dutch central defender who plays for Feyenoord. He is just 21 years old but is already the captain of Feyenoord, which automatically suggests talent and maturity. He is 6 foot 2 and has been capped three times by The Netherlands.

Here is a section from an article on his playing style that makes him sound like a very good fit:

Feyanoord will apparently let De Vrig go if he doesn't sign a new contract by the end of the season.

I think this is a rumour worth keeping an eye on.

Though I would like to see Kelly tried out in that role first as they sound similar.

What do you all think of this?

Coates is too weak to be our new Sammi.

gets bullied too much for me,big Sammi wouldn't have put up with that crap,Kelly has more chance of being that than Coates for me, or Wisdom.

I was looking more at the captain part of the story. We need a leader back there. Coates never came across as a leader but he did win player of the tournament as a young defender in the Copa America. I'd like to see Coates stay and turn in to the player I hoped for. I really dislike the rumours about him, Henderson et al leaving.

Agger, Skrtel, Kelly and De Vrij sounds like potentially a very good and balanced set of CB's for next season.

I'm not convinced by Coates but I dont want to just send him away either.

Definitely 1000% being looked at by LFC,Carra will go ,v good chance Coates will go and half a chance Skrtel may go

Reports saying Rodgers was at the Feyenoord game watching De Vrij TODAY

I suspect us to buy at least 2 CBs n the summer, I would say De vrij would be most likely, I would guess at Williams and De Vrij, I would like Aldeweireld and De Vrij

Think it will be between Diakite, De Vrij, and Williams. I still think we need a LB, would love Coentrao but don't see it.

As I said belatedly, BR has apparently watched De Vrij TODAY, apparently he also watched Bruno Martins Indi, who is a player who can play both centre back AND left back, Martins would be a good Enrique back up and offer cover at CB also. In fact if honest I think Martins Indi would probably become 1st choice LB within the 1st 6 months, and make Enrique cover

Martins Indi is quite limited as a LB, he is not comfortable in that position due to his physique and lack of a good forward pass/cross. De Vrij is better with his technique and speed. Agile player who needs a couple of years to bulk up his body and get some strenght because he is likely to get pushed around in the PL right now.

Would be a pretty good signing from what I've read about him recently.

Coates probably won't be a Liverpool player by September.

Would be a shame to see Coates leave. I am staggered how opinions change on this board; not too long ago Coates was being talked about being Agger's partner and was rated very highly by most. Despite very little game time now most seem to be saying he is not good enough and will not make the grade, how do opinions change so easily? The same has happened in the past with Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Carroll, Enrique, Skrtel.... simply amazing. Genuinely at a loss how this happens. Its like see-saw grading- one good game = good prospect, one sh!t game = not good enough!

I can see Coates leaving to. But I dont think we need to sign to CB's (unless Skrtel also leaves, which I hope doesnt happen). Martin Kelly should play there.

Can see at least De Vrij, Diakite, and Ben Arfa in the summer. Not sure who else or other positions BR might want? Still would like to see a sissoko type in the middle.

Think he's talking about a general consensus rather than individual opinion.
I seem to remember Shelvey was the "new Gerrard" after the Young Boys game. :)

Lucas Biglia has been linked quite a lot. He is a sort of Allen and Lucas mix. Could cover Lucas or play next to him.

I'd like to see another striker to. I think it is very important in fact.

I'd give my left bollock for Ben Arfa, a front 3 of Ben Arfa, Sturridge, Suarez is mouth watering (assuming Suarez stays)
