It is easy to put 'boundaries' in writing and think that will suffice, problem is we have quite a few posters who will always push those boundaries regardless. As I posted on the 1st thread, if people want to view that sort of thing there are millions of opportunities elsewhere on the net. Short of an outright ban on any such pictures there will always be a blurred line between what is and isn't acceptable and the usual howls of protestation from the usual suspects. Got a feeling this is one circle that can't be squared Brix...
How do they handle it on other boards? Don't seem to see much in the way of pictures elsewhere( despite intensive research!) so is it that we are unique or is there a magic formula out there?
Thanks Brix I know I will sound prudish to many here but personally i don't think our house rules should allow any pictures that are degrading to the fairer sex. There is unlimited access to all levels of porn on the Internet. My opinion is very simple here. If you want that, go elsewhere. This is predominantly a football forum. OT threads I can live with, provided they stimulate interest during quiet times. We have had some great OT threads on here but unfortunately OT threads that even touch on any of the isms fall apart quickly. To answer your question Brix, no pictures for me.
It doesn't bother me either way but my kids are too old to be affected - I'd feel differently if they were younger I'm sure.
Having given thought to the whole matter of the ongoing Mod initiative - for which I recommend Limahl sings the theme tune - I have settled upon the following conclusion: I highly recommend that without further ado we all seek appointments with our respective GPs this week and demand referral to a specialist consultant that is able to either subject us to a programme of aversion therapy, or simply perform a frontal lobotomy on us. Why? Well, in these progressive times it is imperative that we have removed all that defines us as human beings. We must become ants. We must become automatons. We must simply operate and perform our designated tasks without the distractions of free will, discretion and independent thought that make Homo Sapiens the imperfect specimens they undoubtedly are. We must not form independent opinions that differ. We must neither identify nor comment on characteristics, behaviours and practices that make one person different in any way from another. Somehow everything that defines us as individuals must be erased. It is simply not enough to just suppress these natural instincts and emotions as it is now as much a crime to think these things as to comment verbally upon them. Discrimination, prejudice and 'isms' extend to the electrical impulses in our brains as much as they do to how they may manifest themselves in our actions. It is irrelevant that we simply notice difference - this is as much a crime as behaving in a perceived prejudicial way as a consequence of these differences. Questioning is likely to cause as much offence as throwing an insult or a rock. And there are myriad people prepared to jump in at a moment's notice to take offence on behalf of a third party. You are guilty for what these people believe you said as much as for what you actually said. Marquis de Custine and Alexis de Tocqueville were enemies of the political left in that they observed and commented truthfully on the facts they gathered. This must never be repeated. There's a knock on my door. It's the commissars. Drill through the front of your skulls whilst you still can...
It all depends how we want to be perceived, both inwardly and outwardly? If we want this forum to be an online lads mag then let it be so but we must be prepared to slap an age limit on it and move it to the top shelf. The Young One (wherever he might be) would not be able to view some of the stuff (as described on the first consultation thread) if this board was a physical entity based in the UK let alone people's nippers of a lesser age. Like the plethora of OT threads in the last few weeks, there have been more of these posts appearing presumably to test the boundaries. Personally, I'm with Peruvian, Soopa and NUTS - there's plenty of stuff elsewhere and those that like it should find it easily. I like a mix of thought provoking, humorous, informative and passionate (in belief and fan terms) and don't see what X-rated threads or mildly toned down versions bring to the table. Aspirationally, this wouldn't be the direction I'd want this board to take. Call me a prude if you will...
very good, Beth. I have to say the beauties put up on the board occasionally, do brighten thing up. They usually appear when things are quiet on the pitch. For example, that video of the girl with the hoola-hoop - shot with humour and not overtly sexual. I don't have a problem with simple nudity, and in the name of equality, if Beth wants to post pics of Sir Les or others disrobed, I will fight for her right to do so... I agree with the idea of a warning on the thread heading, so those that don't want to see it, don't have to.
Difficult one isn't it? Perhaps, as a rule of thumb, if it could appear on page 3 it's ok, otherwise not?
In response to the OP: - no I don't think that's a sexist statement Brix, because it is true. If we attempt to moderate the basics of physical attraction, we may struggle - I still don't understand why people feel the need to post the pics on here, but it seems to be very important to them, and frankly I'm past caring. Just flag 'adult content' in the thread title, and don't post the pics on threads which are not badged 'adult' (though perhaps 'juvenile' would be more accurate). Limiting at soft porn would be appreciated, whatever we think kids will access and too much gynaecology too young can be damaging. - if I was in combative mood I would argue that we should remove 'religion' from the list of things not to be disrespected - its in a different category from the others being a belief system rather than an unchangeable physical fact. Personally I think its very important to disrespect (not to mention mock and treat with contempt) ignorance, particularly that which often encourages and somehow 'justifies' disrespect and discrimination against the other groups you listed. But I would not proactively use this forum do to this, its not its purpose (reserve the right to respond with extreme prejudice to those who post with religious intent - but this is, thankfully, vanishingly rare on here and long may this continue). So ignore this point, its just me being a twat for its own sake.....
not quite sure why a poll was not added to this thread like the idea dislike the idea dont care limited access for examples
Because we need people's thoughts / advice on how we mod a possible contradiction. Poll wouldn't help.
Sorry, my first comment missed the point. IMO, like the joke thread, keep it to one thread per gender depicted, set out the rules on decency and then see how many complaints appear before feeling obliged to wade in and mod. Treat any similar content posted on normal threads as a normal conduct issue. It keeps it fairly neat for you guys.
If an occasional naughty pic or commented is posted so be it, but as someone noted above, there are plenty of other places to go for that sort of thing. Basically, I think we can all make our Moderators life easier and self regulate.
Thanks Stan. Starting to think a rider on our 'ism' rules clarifying the board's view re. natural attraction v. disrespect will cover the apparent (intellectual) contradiction. As for the religion thing, whilst as a belief system it's not as absolute as our physical differences, the spirit of our rules suggests respect is the leveller for all things. Whilst personally I do not embrace religion, to disrespect people's moderate views is pointless. Not quite the same though when it comes to sectarianism or outright bigotry...
