QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has pledged his continuing support to the club and says he expects Harry Redknapp to stay at Loftus Road. Rangers are seven points adrift of safety following their 2-0 defeat to Premier League leaders Manchester United on Saturday. However, Redknapp's side have a run of fixtures against other teams also battling to avoid the drop and Fernandes remains confident the Londoners can retain their top flight status. Responding to a number of supporters who questioned whether he and Redknapp would still be at QPR next season, Fernandes wrote on Twitter: "I am optimistic as ever. "I'm still smiling. It's the next 8 games. Lots of good things. Good chat with Harry on the future come what may. We know what we have to do. Many points to play for. "I'm responsible for this mess ultimately. Tony, If you are reading this, we do want you to stay but whatever happens between now and the end of season, learn by the mistakes that have been made. We can become a sexy global brand but that takes time. We need stability and to rediscover the knack of finding young talent that deserves to be given a chance. It can't be bought in the way you've been told. I've just watched the League Cup Final. The way Swansea have developed over the last 10 years since they almost went out of the league is the perfect example. Sticking with a core of loyal hard working pros. Sticking with an ethos and style of play. Choosing successive managers who could take it to the next level. Buying players who play for the team and are comfortable on the ball even if they are not the first names on the lips of their agents. In short, taking it in stages and learning to walk before we can run. I'd love to be supporting a team that qualifies for the Champions legaue each year and wins trophies. However 8 years ago, I was happy to be able still to watch them and happy to to contribute to the bucket collections. From mid-table league 1 to Premier League in 7-8 years exceeded my wildest dreams. I had resigned myself to living off the memories of our great years from 1966 - 1992. Everything that has happened to us can be put down to this fundamental mistake in strategy.

i really hope that harry stays for next season. hope he get rid of some of the squad players and start to build a team that will take us up and then keeps us up for a long time
Let's face it ........... when your stuck behind the eight-ball, it can be very difficult to get out from behind it. Hughes was and is the biggest eight-ball the football world has ever seen. it will take some effort to find our feet again, but we will in time.
His statement contains an exit clause - as long as the fans want me. A few knobheads giving him flak and there is his excuse. Too cynical?

It's not going to be an overnight solution to our problems. A fractured squad full of players that have little stomach to battle for our club, so many past their sell-by date (when we bought them), no real effective pattern of play and too many who will be happy to just pick up a fat pay cheque for giving f*ck-all. I really do fear we could be in Wolves position this time next year, on a downward spiral and facing League One football. The shirkers will take some shifting and that period will blight our team until they're gone...
With all due respect, I disagree. There is one big difference. We have a pro-active person in TF. Most clubs that go by the way side suffer from having owners that have no real desire to move the club forward and won't put their hands in their pockets when things turn to ****. Again, with TF ............. I think we are safe in that department.
Sorry Aussie, that's not worked. It was all going to be all right when we stayed up last season, we spent millions on a bunch of carthorses. It was all going to be all right in the January window and we still are playing like a bunch of strangers and our biggest problem, scoring goals, wasn't addressed. We now have a squad that frankly would struggle in the Championship. When was the last time we gave a performance of attacking football that had us out of our seats? Get real, money is the cause not cure of our problems...
Tony, stick around mate and enjoy the ride. Rangers never do things the easy way but we'll get there eventually, and when we do it'll be all the sweeter for the journey.
I'm not sure it even has to be actual abuse. Or even real. A little while ago when Fernandes hinted he may walk as a result of receiving "stick" (his word, I believe) from fans, it seemed safe to infer that this had been via Twitter, given TF's enthusiastic use of that particular mouthpiece. I searched high and low for any tweets from QPR fans that could reasonably be said to constitute abuse. All I could find were a handful of tweets containing very mild criticism, some of it clearly on the constructive side. I concluded that Fernandes had invented the alleged "stick" in order to do one of two things (perhaps both): - issue a veiled threat, with the implication that he is someone who will stand no opposition or criticism of any sort - trawl for compliments and arse-kissing from fans keen not to see him leave If there is anything to my hunch, the above would seem to suggest a pretty strange personality type - tending to the needy (seeking validation from the compliments of strangers), the sneaky, and possibly to the narcissistic. Not what I'd want in, say, an employer. So I hope I'm wrong. Of course, my whole theory is instantly debunked as soon as someone can point out the genuine stick/abuse which Fernandes has received from any meaningful number of genuine QPR fans.
A roller coaster has ups as well as downs and TBH I'm struggling to think of too many since TF bought us. The victories over the scum are obvious highlights but even these start to lose their gloss when you have to endure the kind of abysmal performances we have seen in the last 18 months. And the last 6 months have been nothing short of an abject horror show particularly at home. I don't believe Tony can be blamed for this; he brought a PL football team and knew he had to invest to try and keep that status. He did exactly as we all demanded and left the footballing side to those with the relevant experience but has been suckered by managers, agents and players alike. Given all this it is nothing short of miraculous that he wants to carry on even with the Championship looming. He is clearly a true supporter and like all fellow Rs should be treated as such. Those that criticise him should hang their heads in shame. One small plea though Tony. If you have any money or enthusiasm left please put into infrastructure and youth. That way your legacy and the future of our club will be assured.
Under Hughes this season, we were leaking goals and failing to offer real threats up front. Harry has done much to solve the defensive problem (not perfect yet, Swansea was a bad day at the office) If the current team was in the Championship, I reckon we'd be mid-table - increasingly difficult to score against, but weak in attack (particularly with niggly injuries to both strikers). It's the issues in offence that Harry will be focusing on now, in the next 11 games, and before next season. If we go down, then given some resources (incl parachute payments), I think he'll get it right.
I would like Tony to stay. He's a good bloke, he's put his money where his mouth is, he has a clear picture of where he wants us to be. The mistakes made have only been obvious to me in retrospect, don't blame him for anything. Above all he is not your identikit, colour and value free club owner/chairman. If Harold can't average something like 1.1 points a game (which is about what you need over a season to get the pundit approved total for 'safety', which may not actually be needed), he should be dumped, whether we stay up or not. Particularly if we continue to play this aimless, style free brand of football.
I really don't see the point of so many complaining about what's happening now. We all know that we were stuffed after the Saints defeat, the writing was on the wall from the West Ham defeat and that's when we began to seriously lose touch with the pack. Harry has done what he can with a squad of players that patently isn't good enough and lacks or lacked key players. The signings we made were only dealing with part of the problem and we clearly are not good enough. Hopefully, we'll have a big cull in the summer but some of the dross may just like their pay-packets too much to go...
