i think we would all love to see City promoted to the Premier League but I just think that it's a case of the journey being better than the destination. It's great to see the top teams but less fun when you're struggling against the odds - does anyone remember the "one rule for the top clubs and another for the newcomers" refereeing as well. So, I want us to win promotion but I think the entertainment and excitement is probably better in the Championship.
I think those who turned to jelly after today's result better vote for the Championship because 4-1 defeats probably won't be rare in the Prem.
The fun is in the chase. Promotion is great because it shows the nation that you were (one of) the best teams in your league. That moment when you finally achieve the goal you've been working towards for 40+ games is amazing. You look forward to trips to bigger and better grounds, against bigger and better clubs, and marvel at the fact you're now one of them. You get a few points in the first few games and think, "this is brilliant". Then it all comes crashing down with a thrashing by someone like Stoke, Wigan or Fulham, and you realise it's not so brilliant after all. I'd rather be in League One chasing promotion to the Championship, then in our current position. PS. Before some idiotic arsehole comes along and somehow draws from that that I am a 'WUM', I am not saying that I would like us to implode financially and end up in the position we were in back in the 90's...
But none of us do, we all support Hull City and our recent experience of the Championship is hardly ever scoring. Partly because our attacking players are, in general, **** and partly because the opposition is so bloody negative all the time. These last couple of years in the Championship have been, in general, the most depressing years of football since the early 00s just because of the sheer lack of football to actually shout about. It's cost us a lot of fans and atmopshere in the ground. That refereeing thing is a myth too. Everyone's got it in for the big clubs but we had just as many **** decisions against small clubs as we did against big ones.
Not really a myth though - I used to follow the Jeff Winter site in which he reviewed refereeing decisions for every Premier League game and publish "corrected" league tables. There was a clear correlation which confirmed that the so-called "big four" at that time (Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea) were much more likely to be given the benefit of the doubt against teams who were considered to be struggling in the league.
I enjoy The Championship and the fact we have a good chance of winning every game, but there's no point competing for the top 6 if your aim isn't to get to the top flight and play against the very best.
Surely the whole point of being a Football League Club is to get as high up the football pyramid as possible? The Premier League with the coverage for the Club and the City, the riches on offer and the standard of football on show. I couldn't disagree with any of City Agro's posts one iota.
I split the Premiership into three sections. 1) The Financial Pigs - Top 6/8 who trade illegally and spend most of their time glorying in the fact that they are screwing up the England National team; 2) The 'Why Are We Here' Crew - Never going to win anything and never going to be relegated. Their season success is characterised by taking a point at Anfield or Old Trafford; 3) The '4th From Bottom is Success' Brigade - All they have to play for is 4th from bottom and will never win much more. Personally I do not want my team to be in any of these sub-sections. I'd sooner have something to play for every year and have a chance of winning every game on a level playing field!
It's all about the time and the place. There's always something to play for, be it promotion or relegation, or something in-between. The Championship promotion race is exciting, the Premier League survival contest is also exciting, it's all about being the best you can be, or there's little point in competing at all.
Come on.. Premiership every season For the city, the tourism and attention Hull as a city gets is fantastic For our team to be in the world spotlight, to challenge against the best teams in the world and if we'd rather just win most games let's just play in the conference? No progress without struggles come on!!
Premiership every time! The club needs it and this area desperately needs it. I'd love us to do a West Brom and yo-yo for a few seasons before being able to secure a solid spot in the premier league. That would be far more rewarding in the long term. Football fans are too short sighted and only think season by season but you realistically need a 5 year plan to get where we need to be.
This. I hate this "comfort zone" mentality of wanting to stay in the Championship because we're doing alright here. It's that same attitude and lack of ambition that has blighted this city for decades, on and off the football pitch. I dare say on any other club's forum this would be considered a ridiculous question, and rightly so.
PL all day for me. When I think back to 2008/09, what was wrong? Of the final standings, down to 8th place, we did the double on Fulham at 7th, only the Champions - ManU (remember that heartstopping 4-3 away!) and Villa did the double on us; the other five were either beaten of drawn, often away! Our failing was a lack of depth in the squad and a lack of balls in the manager's sack. (Or was it Fat Sam getting a job and cutting his advice?) Don't be like Brown, grow a pair.
and it is also about seeing idiots in tiger suits and facepaint getting tickets to away games when long standing season pass holders cannot get them. if city get into the premiership again, the ticketing injustices and free movement restrictions of huddersfield, as well as yesterday will pail into insignificance!
I saw some of those tables and at one point Stoke were one of the teams most affected by 'favourable' refereeing decisions. That's more to do with the pressure they put on refs inside their ground and particularly the way Pulis moans and makes sure everyone knows whenever they get a decision against them so that it's always in the refs head. Nothing to do with big or small clubs.
