Wouldn't surprise me if the club and Jason parted ways. If we stay up I think RW is a position we'll be looking to improve especially. DTLW
I wouldn't read too much into this. Puncheon's agent will be talking to the chairman, not the manager.
Doesn't sound bothered about Punch, but suspect there may be a bit lost in translation. It may be there is a contract and it's up to Jason.
Well he will have his best interests at heart. If a PL team came calling, would he stand in his son's way? I doubt it.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino hopes a new contract can be agreed with winger Jason Puncheon over the coming weeks. Puncheon spent several loan spells away from the club after losing his place in the first team and little over a year ago took to Twitter to criticise Southampton executive chairman Nicola Cortese. The winger threatened to see out the rest of his contract training with the reserves and youth team, but the pair patched up their differences and Puncheon has now become an integral part of the team. "I myself haven't spoken anything about his contract," the Argentinian said, speaking through a translator. "Puncheon is a player I am counting on and he is a player that has certain qualities and skills that are good for the team so, yes, I'd like him to stay." Well that sounds more positive.
Just goes to show you how easy it is to manipulate a quote. Sounds promising that at the very least Poch wants him to stay and we've already heard from Puncheon himself a month or so ago that he wants to stay too.
I think the Puncheon contract situation will probably wait until Summer, and I don't think there's anything particularly dishonest about that. He has played more games than everyone except Morgan/Rickie so far (according to Wiki) and I don't think he would match that next season, so it could depend on whether Newcastle, West Ham, or someone else makes an offer where he would be a first team regular.
Apart from Chamberlain and Puncheon, I can't remember any player angling for a move since the takeover (and Punch came back into the fold). Hammond wanted a move as he wasn't going to get any game time. Other than that everyone seems happy and seem to have bought into the plan. Part of it may be choosing the right players in the first place.
Exactly. Whoever wrote the original quote has been very selective indeed and was obviously looking for a story where there isn't one.
