A 1:23:2 from Lewis on a damp track is pretty impressive.

It is a strong lap, on another note, why are Williams just practicing in boxes and pit stops, do they not feel the need to run and get some data?

Webber is always the guy with the new upgrades, they always avoid Seb trying them out first because it attracts too much attention <laugh>

Also hearing rumours on autosport that what you see now is a "Monza spec" RB9 with the amount of rake they're running....

Lewis Hamilton about the Mercedes #F1W04 : “The engine is the strongest point, the downforce is the weakest point''.

Story of the past few years, the only thing that seems to work in that car without fault is the engine lol.

    ----

Cannot wait for a f**k off article on how Hamilton is a rain master, from the one and only Benson.

Lewis has had the same engine under him throughout his F1 carear

...Meaning saying its the cars strong point doesnt really account for much.

So what he's really saying is that the car sucks? It's nice to see that Lewis is allowed to be more open about these things, but at the moment it looks like the W04 is the next in a long line of Mercedes failures. Kyle will be loving this.

Don't know how Lewis can say the aero is bad when it was the best car at Monaco and China last season which is maximum/high in downforce, maybe he is on about aero efficiency over a season?

The Mercedes has good consistent lap times though and they have upgrades next week. Either he is bluffing or judging the car too early. Let's wait until after the last test to see if it improves.

I think the worst situation compared with the previous versions was the balance in general, Nico says it's better which is good enough for me.

Its times are still competitive though. I'm really suprised he is putting such a downer on things publicly.

I can see a major performance fluctuation between different tracks as the grid is so close, 0.5s could now easily be the difference between pole and getting out of Q2

The reason why he is downplaying it because there are a lot of haters and journalists that would love to pile on the venom if something goes wrong. Hence I don't believe (100%) he had a brake failure at Jerez and that it was more of the case of him pushing very hard because Mercedes told him to do so and get a comparison of his old McLaren.

There's no way Mercedes would come out on it's own driver and say: "He messed up" there would be F1 fallout; "Hamilton ****s up on day 1", "Crashkid returns", "The New Hamilton? yeah right!", "Was it McLaren all along?" etc etc.... that's the wrong way handle PR and F1 teams know how to go about it.

He's playing the Alonso mind game like last year, keep downplaying the car no matter where it finishes and turn that pressure around on your rivals and it works!
