The Mayor of Barnet claims he has slept with an Arsenal striker in the past. (both male)

He seems a bit of an attention-seeker and also seems to have previous for being a complete idiot.

You have to question the mothering ability of any woman who risks their unborn child with drink, drugs or cigarettes, but am no fan of bringing in laws, laws and more laws. What happens if a women has a drink before she knows she's pregnant? Most damage is done early in pregnancy before any onlooker or policeman will know you are pregnant. Do you ban pregnant women from eating fatty foods and not enough vegetables? This is an area difficult to legislate in, so best to keep out of it.

Police apparently wanted to ban the move of the Huddersfield v Hull game to an evening match for Sky, but were forced to agree to it as Huddersfield would face a points deduction if they did not fulfil their obligation to have at least one game on Sky. The Hull fans are now being bussed in as we used to do for Pompey games. Two interesting points...the points deduction if obligation to Sky not fulfilled (he who pays the piper etc) and the fact that Huddersfield haven't been on Sky before this...even in L1 we had more than 1 game on Sky (didn't we?).

They have laws in the USA that forbid pregnant women from going to night clubs...apparently.

May be in some states only...sounds more like a local law than a pan-American one.

Why doesn't the magistrate just say the bail decision on Pistorius ,instead of going on and on for over half an hour I keep flicking back and he is still chirping on....

The judge has to explain his decisions in case it is used as a precedent for another case. I don't know why they have such prolonged pre-hearings to decide about bail though...English law is much quicker at this stage. We don't present so much pre-trial evidence because we have trial by jury...if they had this circus here, they'd never find a juror who hadn't been influenced by the media. Wrong to present so much 'evidence' that turns out to be unsupported...better to wait until all the forensics have been done. Still, there are worse courts of law elswhere in the world I suppose.

The lesson to be learnt here is that having a gun to hand enables you to make irreversible decisions.

There was an absolutly fascinating programme about the growth of English Law and it's basis in Common Law (which luckily the Normans left in place for trial of Saxon law-breakers). It is distinctively different from the Romano system used in Europe. The Judge has just referred to the difference between South African Law (based on Roman-Dutch Law) and UK law. American Law is based on English Common Law though they still have the Grand Jury System which we abolished years ago.

Christ, this judge is going on forever. Over 1 hour now, and a brief summary of South African history and justice. Give the final decision man!

Our impatience is a very good reason for limiting media coverage of trials. Better to get it right and explain your decision than to play to the gallery. He has to mention everything or the defence could argue that he had failed to consider a fact.

Hilarious how many people are bitching and moaning about the length of the decision. Not many people would be able to cope with Law..!
