Looked good too. Especially that one run when he did one Zenit player for pace and then cut back to take another defender out of the game
Took on one player and that's it. Like one poster above me said he's a one trick pony. Nowhere near as good a winger as Downing (who was brilliant tonight) but that tells you something.
Considering he hasn't played for ages he did ok. Downing ..brilliant ...please tell me you are joking. He's got the ability to put in a good ball but checks back so many times its a wonder he doesn't tackle himself, except he can't tackle so he couldn't...I think!
Looked good. Genuine skill and can beat a man. I can only assume he has shagged Rodgers wife or something.
Assaidi played well, Downing was good effort wise and defensively. The Shelvey sub held us back imo. But if he buried that chance we wouldn't be saying that.
But he didn't though. Not sure he will ever do it for us. He needs to go out on loan to a lower table team to get regular games.
Those badly timed substitutions sealed our fate. The 3rd had just gone in and what does BR do, disrupt the team flow with 2 subs?
Yeah they didn't work. If we had Courtinho and Sturridge on the bench it might have worked. We will next time.
When the 3rd goal went in he should have left it as it was, I kept shouting at the TV Don't put them on you'll fk things up! To change a team that was totally dominating and had scored 3 goals out of 4 needed and that early, what the eck? Shelvey never got into the game, might as well not have put him on, for all downings failings he was giving them headaches
Downing put 100% into tonight and was very effective in all areas of the pitch, he was operating as a centre midfielder for about 20 minutes after the first set of substitutions. Assaidi couldn't even get close to matching him for effort despite playing for only half an hour.
Yeah I do agree mate. Was trying to look at the positive but it was poor from Rodgers. You could argue his set up in the first place was bang on though.
Aye, spot on, but I tell thee, bottom line, players not Brendan, if we'd have put in a City like performance we'd have been going through. But if brendan had just left it and gave it another 10 mins I think Zenith were well on the way to buckling. The Shelvey sub is the one that caused teh damage, he was central and dead weight, not what we needed. Allen was far more effective at being a nuisance even if he wasn't playing a blinder
