Charlie - our problem of late is that we have quite a youthful team - in particular the midfield. If we go a goal down than heads can drop - particularly if Chris Wood is not playing because, him aside, we have a pretty dire conversion rate in terms of attempts on goal. Now there are two obvious cures here - the first might be to inject some steel into the midfield (as you suggest) which would, of course, then help the overall attitude if we should go a goal down. Signing another quality striker who can put the ball away if given chances however (and we have been creating bucketloads) helps to resolve the same problem but from a different angle. Hopefully, now, even if we happen to go a goal down, we will have the collective belief in the team that with Wood AND Kane up front (or having the option of swapping the two) this can get us, not just back on terms, but in front. I'm glad that Nigel has acted so quickly because this will certainly give a much needed boost to the whole club.
If we can get a decent defensive midfielder in it would allow us to change the formation Wood Kane Nugent--------------------Knockaert Drinkwater DM
@hkane28: Thanks for all your messages, will be another experience and I hope we can push for promotion ! #lcfc
I have to say this smacks of a bit of desperation from Nigel.. It seems he is unable to get beckford, waghorn, vardy, schlupp...etc scoring on a regular basis, is that down to them or is it something more ?
Nothing more no...they are all just ****! plain and simple lol well Schlupp isnt would like him back!
add futacs, hopper, blyth , nugent, and wood....to the list along side kane and we have more stikers than the bbc
You've only just got second place back. We were inevitably going to lose second place unless you lost both your games anyway. You do keep winning - at home. Three of your next four matches are away though and will shape your season. Will Gedo cut it on his travels? Is one striker enough? We'll find out over the next four games.
Beckford did score a few goals last season, he didnt leave here because he was crap. He left here because his attitude, wages etc. Nigel cant be blamed for him because he didnt sign him Waghorn isnt a prolific striker and when he got a run in the team he did very well and he was one of our best players Vardy was a gamble and he started well but failed too push on. He was worth taking but I think he has jumped too far too soon. A short term loan to League 1 and then re-evaluate his situation then Schlupp is a young lad breaking through, his hat trick on debut raised everyone expectations of him but as he isnt near the first team like Liam Moore he is out on loan. Me personally I think his long term future is left back Futacs was brought as a back up option and nothing more. Since he kicked up a bit of a fuss about not playing and we signed Chris Wood he is now pretty much surplus to requirements
My concern is we have a very large number of strikers, most of them are young, but none seem to be progressing and getting any better, pearson seems to be implementing a scatter gun approach to the problem... I ask again why is it at least one of the group that we have, is not stepping up to the plate and grabbing their chance? He has just said in the interview after the charlton defeat that he "believes in his players and supports them" this move suggests otherwise..he bought waghorn, futacs , vardy, blyth.. is it good management just to go out and buy or loan a problem solver? rather than working with and improving what you already have?
Waghorn wasnt actually signed by Pearson. Nigel brought him here on loan and then Paulo Sousa (Mandaric actually) paid 3M to bring him back here on a permanent deal I agree with your point about the young strikers other then Wood have all stalled. Schlupp as a striker hasnt progressed since Sven left. Blyth was signed from Leamington is out on loan so its unfair to include him. Hopper has been on the fringes and hasnt broke in but spent time out on loan. Waggy is very hit and miss and Vardy just isnt cut out for this league
Im willing to put money on the fact that this move wouldn't of happened if we had beaten charlton comfortably.. I think this is pure panic and a gamble... its not like pearson, he is feeling the pressure for me we all know though that waggy is pearsons boy
