Auld Queeny gave us a visit today and some people thought it would be a great idea to burn the union flag, its only the jack when it is on a ship, thanks QI:)

Anyways, the flag burners, trying in vein to set a flag alight on a nice windy Dublin day, were proudly wearing their United shirts during their anti English protest:)

    ****ing ****ers.

    I don't know why she's bothered tbh.

They're a trading partner, never going to best buddies despite how many Irish live over and are happy. Just leave it.

What pished me off about it is not the Monarchy, as much as I think they are as useful as a raft on a road, it is the millions of quids we spent on this and next Obama, we're obviously broke yet we spend milllions on state visits,<doh>

Gotta love the protest's stupidity, the ironing is delicious

Humm, all this crap does annoy me. We are just fine how relations are. I work with a lot of Irish, being in the building industry, and we have a good crack.

When you start getting down to the bones, which visits like this provoke, it's not going to be great.

Despite our history, I don't take kindly to seeing my flag burnt! I'm no Royalist, but I do like my country.

The Queen actualy however adds money overall to our coffers as she and the Royal Family promote tourism, raise our standing globally, and influence others. The wedding was a substantial accelarator to our economy as well.

Visits to Ireland I cannot see as that beneficial, although it does sound like she was welcomed by the majority.

P.S the United element is quite amusing! Just shows what ******s they are.

i'm a mass royalist, i think they seperate us from the rest of the world and given the chance the yanks would love a royal family. Republic governments spend all of their time saying what they are going to do without doing it while dictatorships do not give everyone the rights they deserve... Democratic governments with the backing of a continuant like the royal family brings familiararity along with choices... The best of both.

That and they bring in twice as much as they spend with tourism, their contacts in trade not to mention the amazing amount of work they do for charity

I'm a staunch republican, but I reckon burning the flag is stupid.I still reckon that a proposal should be made that the UK give Ireland,Liverpool in exchange for the 6 counties.

I'm not sure the royal familiy are as good for us as you think they are. They have nothing to do with making a government less indicisive, and I don't understand your point about dictatorships. This is not to say that I want them gone, I just don't think they are that good for us.

I think he means something along the lines of the fact that the Government cannot declare war; they have to ask the Monarchy to declare war. It is such things that keep democracy alive, as the Queen herself has no real authority or power she is a figurehead.

I couldn't help but cringe when I seen the protestors today, not only was there a guy in an Man United jersey but since it was an anti-British protest I couldn't help but laugh at all the people wearing Celtic jerseys???

"But they're an Irish club" ehhhhh..... no they're not?

They all looked like a bunch of idiots, particularly the young lads who weren't even born early enough to remember what has happened in the past <doh>

Well actualy she does technically have the power over the armed forces.

They swear alliegence to the Queen, not the government/ Parliment.

    King kenny

That's the thing, young people get on the bandwagon and it becomes cool to hate something. It can be the same over here to various groups as well.

It's just sad to see realy.

I thought that the funniest part of the whole thing is that the solution to not wanting the Queen in our country is to wreck our own city and attack our own police force!

    Doh!

Well why wouldn't you! Their tax will pay for repairs on any public goods/services anyway - providing any of them work!

None of it realy adds up.

What is the general public opinion over there?

Whilst we all are a little vein that is not nice... So flip her over then and keep banging away while she talks.<badger>

As for the visit, as already said, what a waste of my fkn tax €s. You can have your Royalty, and it sets you apart alright, no other countries apart from Germany? do they? I think not? have a German Royal family as heads of state, even Windsor is german, never mind hanover:) Whilst the actual real Kind of England is some joe soap normal geezer that has 0 chance of claiming his throne:)
