I have unashamedly nicked this from the Budgie board...

Where are the best places you have visited anywhere around the world and where would you highly recommend for a holiday or short break etc? What are the best attractions and places to eat? It would be interesting to read your own personal experiences from your globe trotting!

To start us off the best place I have been to in terms of natural beauty and the great feeling of just being alive is New England in the USA. I went there last Autumn to experience their glorious fall and drove through Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachutsets right across to Marthas Vineyard and Nairntucket. Asbolutely brilliant place to explore and they absolutely love the British out there!

Oslo is another beautiful place to go as is the whole of Norway but you will need plenty of money as a pint of beer out there will set you back almost a tenner!

Acapulco, Mexico. Amazing place....full of muggers, drug shoot outs and beggars...rather like East London....but warmer....but seriously lovely beaches, Peurto Marquez...Caleta.and the women...OMG..they are fantastic.....would not go there now with all the probs. Paris...obviously....for the art...Louvre a must for all art lovers......Rueil Malmaison is a gorgeous suburb....but full of French people....rude....obnoxious gits......

I'm currently living in a great place to visit.
Awesome weather (I haven't worn a winter jacket for more than two years)
    Great surf
A fantastic zoo, safari park and Sea World (I'm a member of them all and just pop down for a couple of hours with my son and then leave to get him home in time for a nap!!) Cool places to just take a walk for a bit.
Desert, mountains and beaches all within a few hours drive so no chance of getting bored here.

Oslo and Norway are indeed lovely, but I remember paying 15 quid a pint in the airport!!

One place that is really worth goung to is Gambia, only about 4 hours on a plane and being an ex British cloney everyone speaks english. I remember tucking into some freshly caught and bbq'd prawns on the beach with a local beer. Absolute heaven!

Forgot to mention Balboa Park with it's fantastic architecture housing more museums than you can find in one location anywhere.

It's not all sunshine and palm trees. California is super expensive (I call it the vampire state as it seems to suck you dry) but we pay for the weather. At least I haven't had to go through what the east coast has had to endure recently. A huge storm followed shortly by large amounts of snow, they have had it bad over there.

My brother in law has got a place in Santa Monica SD and I've been there a couple of times. I really like California but for me New England is just far better! Marthas Vineyard is just beautiful and if I had the money I would love to retire there!

I'm off to Cuba in July for a couple of weeks, my first ever time to Cuba and I am really looking forward to Havana. It will be like stepping back in time to the 1950s so a mate of mine has told me but he says that the culture and the people are just so welcoming and relaxed.

In this country you can't beat Cornwall as far as i'm concerned, must admit to having a soft spot for norfolk broads/north norfolk coast as i spent a load of my summer holidays up there with the norfolk side of the family.

I've always found that France would be a great place without the French! <ok>

best country i've been to in europe is definitely croatia, in particular dubrovnik. Croatia has a thousand islands, a massive coast line, guarenteed sunshine, great natives and isn't as expensive as more 'fashionable' european stops.
Outside Europe I travelled in south america and fell in love with bolivia. its the poorest country out there but it punches well above its weight (I'm thinking salt flats, scenes from butch cassidy, the death road, amazon basin, and lake titicaca.)
Anyone thinking about a summer holiday I strongly urge you to Croatia!

St Austel, Mevagisy and St Ives are really nice but I wouldn't go anywhere near Newquay these days since the Teeny Boppers arrived! The only thing that puts me off Cornwall is the bastard drive it takes forever to get there!

Lake district is also nice, take a walk up Fairfields, or across Scarfell Pike.
Agree with PP that Croatia is beautiful. Never been myself but heard many stories and met many croatians whilst living in Amsterdam, really nice people.
Agree with JWM about France too <monster>

A bit closer to home we can boast the beautiful windswept Suffolk Coast places like Aldeburgh, Southwold, Walberswick & Dunwich are just lovely <ok> Well away from all those pesky 'holiday makers' that all head up to Yarmouth!

Used to ride my bike out to Aldeburgh all the time as a kid. Stop off at Thorpeness to take a canoe out on the mere and back home to Saxmundham. I had so much freedom back then to just get on a bike and go. Whether it be chillin' at Framlingham castle of playing in the warm water outlet from Sizewell power station (I have the green glow to prove it) I did things that you wouldn't dream of letting your kids do now. And all before the times of mobile phones. Just make sure you've got ten pence in your pocket to call home and tell them you'll be late for tea!
