On Blackburn defeat "It's happened to many teams, it's not like we haven't touched the ball, they only had 1 shot on goal." On Bayern "I trust our quality, spirit and mental strength. We are on a good run overall. We have only lost 2 of our last 11 games in the Premier League." On new contract rumors "I deserve more credit, the contract speculation is intended to harm and is completely wrong." Continued... (To journo who asked him the question) "Why do you look at me?" (Journo replies) "Because it is your press conference." Wenger (bemused) "Ok thank you." On Blackburn defeat "This is a pre match conferenece, if you wanted to talk to me about the FA Cup you should have asked me on Saturday." (Then refuses to answer the next question which is about Bayern) Continued "I've been accused of not taking FA Cup seriously. I've won the FA Cup four times. Who has won it more? Give me one name." Um...Fergie?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yrzM5ZkmSKc Feel sorry for the guy, seems to be getting flustered.
Obvious that the FA cup defeat is biting. You took a gamble and it didn't pay off. Yes the team you selected should have been Blackburn, but you should of made sure. Do i feel sympathy for him, yes a little. But I'm sure his annual £6m salary more than makes up for it.
on team news… What has changed is that Monreal is not available, Mertesacker will be back in the squad and there is an uncertainty about Koscielny. Jenkinson is also available again. So Jenkinson Sagna Mert Verm If Sagna can pull off another WC performance at CB I'll be so happy.
how about playing sagna or jenkinson at left back? that way only one player would be out of there best position, as oposed to two?
Not a bad idea. Wenger did say Sagna can play across the back 4, but we've never seen him play there so it is a risk, then again it was a risk playing him as CB against S'Land and he pulled off a World Class performance so that could be a risk worth taking.
Sagna filled in at LB before, when Clichy was out a few seasons back. He wasn't as commanding as he is on the right.
True, he's played at LB a few times during his Arsenal career due to injuries and him being the bomb-dizzle.
I have to take issue with Wenger's assertion that to say he fielded a weakened team is disrespectful because it consisted of 11 internationals. Anyone who was at the game would have seen the slow, guileless approach-play, the lack of urgency and the complete lack of imagination in the final third. When Jack, Walcott and Cazorla were brought on the tempo immediately increased and we looked far better going forward. The truth of the matter is he sacrificed the F. A. Cup to keep players fresh for a tournament we have no chance of winning.
He took a risk and it didn't pull off. He should man up and move on rather than whinge. The two most successful managers of the Premiership are the two most annoying managers in the Premiership.
A bit late, I know but that press conference from Wenger yesterday was just cringe worthy. When someone asked him about the Blackburn game, he said we are here to talk about the Bayern Munich game, so after they asked him about Bayern, his response was 'I don’t talk about Bayern Munich today'.
@Bonstar You say Fergie and your right he has won 5 FA Cups to Wengers 4 FA Cups in total. But since Wenger has been in the country no other Manager has won more FA Cups than him. Fergie winning 3 of his FA Cups in the 16 years Wenger has managed in England. I can understand his frustration given his treatment by the English media. It's obviously a stressful time for AW at the moment but this press conference is blown out of proportion. It's not like he tryed to fight anyone! He just got irritated with the focus being on the Blackburn game and his contract. It ust be frustrating to have people constantly focusing on negatives surrounding your job!
Nobody bats an eyelid when Fergie has a rant, but the media are on him like a rash if Wenger speaks out.
Wenger's next conference is sure to be exciting, wonder what nonsense he will spout next, sorry Wenger, it's been 2 bad losses after one another, after all your useless talk, we have come up short AGAIN. Time to stop talking 2 much and have the decency to admit to those journalists that they're right, you nor your team are good enough, and have been a failure.
On Bacary Sagna… Sagna has a problem with his knee. He will be out for Saturday certainly. I don’t think there are any other knocks really. On Kieran Gibbs… He is still out. He will be a few weeks yet. === What happened to the original "3 week injury?" Thanks for that one!!
