Milan deserved that. Definitely the better team. Barcelona playing extremely negative boring possession with no intent. Maybe they'll actually try to score now instead of trying to wear Milan out

What's that I hear? It's the owner of Coral letting out a scream of joy.

Yet if a defender did it, it would be a pen.

That 9 times out of 10 referees give that as handball. It's irrelevant if the handball was deliberate or not, it's how the referee sees it.

Absolute masterclass in tackling from Milan here. Isn't really their forte, but Barca might need to add a bit of width to their attack, because they're coming up against ten men stacked within the width of the 18 yard box every time they come forward.

I will quote as I cannot be ****ed writing this

"This is where the handball rule gets misinterpreted. For a handball infraction to be called, a player must deliberately handle the ball with their hand or arm. A referee must determine if the player intentionally handled the ball. Nowhere in the FIFA Laws of the Game does it state that an unintentional handling of the ball is an infraction. So if a player has their back turned to a crossed ball that hits their hand, there is good reason to believe that it is not a handball. Even if a player gains an advantage after touching the ball with their hand, it is not a handball if the handling was unintentional.

The interpretation of FIFA Law 12 tells referees to consider a few things when determining handball infractions. First, the movement of the hand is considered. If the hand moved to the ball, then the handling of the ball is most likely intentional. But if the ball moved to the hand, it may not be intentional. Second, the distance of the player to the ball is considered. A handball that occurred from a ball played close is unexpected and most likely unintentional. But when a ball is played from far away, a player has time to anticipate the ball and avoid handling it with their arm or hand. Finally, the position of the hand is considered. Touching the ball with an arm that is hanging away from the body is not necessarily an infraction. Once again, the handling of the ball must be intentional."

You're also wrong. 99% of the time that would have been given as a goal by good ref. Blatantly not deliberate. If that goal was scored against Southampton I would have zero complaints as there is nothing wrong with it

I'd be inclined to let that one go but I've seen them given. But Tom is right, insofar as it's the referee's call.

I'm fully aware what the ****ing law is, I'm a referee. But these things happen very quickly and if referees such as myself spot a handball I will give it most of the time. I gave a penalty the other week when the ball hit the arm of a defender when the ball traveled around 2 yards. But his arm was outstretched so I judged that his arm shouldn't have been there in the first place and gave the penalty. It wasn't deliberate but it was a stonewall penalty.
