eh ? Because you are changing to a manager that CAN learn from his mistakes ( and he will make lots im sure ), instead of waiting another season with one who definitely cant. if an old dog needs putting down you dont say " well what the point of getting this dog destroyed if your just gonna go and get another one thas gonna be ****ting on the carpet for the first year." After a year he might be NOT ****ting on the carpet , but a great new dog.
And if he is still ****ting on the carpet after a few years, would you have him put down? please log in to view this image
Wenger was responsible for revolutionizing football over here and his style was absolutely fresh at the time. At one stage we played the best football in the world IMO. But football has moved on from the "Wenger Era" as I like to call it and his philosophy is now, unfortunately, out dated. My problem with Arsene is that he still sticks by what worked for him years ago and the fact that he fails to see fault in certain players I see as his 'favourites' (Diaby, Gerv, Ramsey etc). We've desperately needed strengthening for at least 3 seasons now and he has failed to do so. Last of all the loss of key players still hurts me and the fact that nothing more was done to keep them is the nail in the coffin for me. I'm a fan, as a fan the main thing I want is glory. Glory = trophy's and they've been missing for what will be 8 years at the end of this season. I thank AW for what he brought to the club but I think we need a more modern day manager.
I'd give a new manager any number of years provided the club progressed year on year. If you can SEE tangible progress, it would be a complete and utter shift from the current consistent decline. If a new manager came in he's have to change the team, change the tactics, change the motivations, change the training, and make progress with the club, I'd give him a long time, because changing things around is not going to be easy. What I'd want to see is PROGRESS not REGRESSION. Under Wenger, it's a guarantee of regression. Under a new manager, there might be. I'll take a 50/50 shot over a 100% guarantee any day.
If you have GOT TO get a new dog anyway , what is you bestest ever reason , your bestest ( lol ) , for giving wenger another year . Come on what possible good does it do ? Let us all know. Hes gone anyway mate , switch off the machine and walk away .
I'm still wondering what it is that Wenger knows in option 1? Wenger knows it is the end of the line for him, or he knows that success is round the corner. We need to be told!
After what is surely an 8th season without a trophy you have to judge Wenger by what he's achieved in the more recent past not his early career. Old beloved Arsenal players were applauded for their services to the club but we knew there came a point where for whatever reason they couldn't produce as they once could for the club and it was time for them to move on. So either Wenger has plateaued as being no more than a top 4 coach or he has more in him and he is under achieving due to stubbornness, lack of desire, etc... The football landscape has changed, clubs have more insanely rich owners, clubs have improved their dieting and fitness ideas as well as adopting a similar vast scouting network We need to stop fighting amongst fans, either you accept and support that this is as good as it gets under Wenger or you desire more from the club (as you're entitled to after all these years)
So what you're saying is us fans need to come together as one and decide that Wenger is either past it or purposefully ****?
This time last season Arsenal were: P26 W14 D4 L8 F53 A37 Pts46 Now: P26 W12 D8 L6 F50 A29 Pts44 2 less wins, 2 less points, scored 3 less goals. The ONLY things going in their favour is they've lost 2 less, and conceded 8 less - exactly the amount from the freak result against Man Utd. Once again, Arsenal are reliant on Spurs messing up to get Top4. This time though, they've been humiliated in 3 Cup Competitions - and twice by inferior opposition. There has been ZERO progress. Arsenal are fading, Arsene is failing.
A team that couldn't even win the Carling cup against a relegation bound team, the 'In Arsene Wenger we trust' crowd are like a cult, brainwashed by their leader Muammar Wenger to a point where they start talking like him, giving the same old excuses. Too many reoccurring defensive lapses, Carling cup final, fa cup against Blackburn, and the most recent occurrence of these defensive lapses occurred some 18 hours ago. For 8 years this has been happening, Lost to blackburn because of a defensive lapse, okay no problem, we pick ourselves up and we go back to the drawing board and try to fix things, few days later the same crap occurs...no one is willing to attack the ball in corners, no one is willing to block shots or press opposing players. This has been happening for 8 years...8 years my friends.
As long as the "in Wenger we trust" crowd keep on clucking away, he will never be gotten rid of. I must say the way he plays the media and Arsenal fans is pretty damn amazing though.
I'd actually go so far as to say that with Wenger, most of you gooners suffer from a form of Stockholm Syndrome, haha.
All we need is to wait until hacks lose count. 8 yers without trophy, 9, 10 ... they can not count far beyond that. So we will be OK soon .
Arsenal fans have been vocal about their discontent for years, and it's changed nothing. In the last few years we've been rated amongst the least happy fans in the Premier League.
It's not been this bad before ever during Wengers reign. It's getting worse and worse. If Arsenal finish outside the Top4 I imagine there will be HUGE, unignorable chants at the last few games of the season, not to mention ridiculous amounts of pressure from the press coverage and the largest amount of unrenewed season tickets the Club have seen in MANY years.
In terms of your spending he's either finished in the position you'd be expected too and finished perhaps one position higher at times in the league. In the cups you have performed fairly well if you look at the 8 years overall too. I think the problem comes when you consider some of the players you've had in that time and how, whilst this might be the worst squad you've had in years(as some of you have said) you're still paying a yearly salary that puts you amongst the top teams in the league. You should be a lot close to United, for example, than us. Overall in the 8 years Wenger has done okay but it's the last 2/3 seasons where he's done really quite poorly, which I think has been slightly cushioned by Liverpool's much bigger fall from grace.
Not the ending that Wenger should have to be honest, but expectations are high when managing a top club and dropping out of the top 4 would be the last straw for many.
There's no doubt it'll get worse if Arsenal finish outside the top four, but I think it's been bad for years. The media have been pouring out the 'has Wenger lost it?' stuff for a long time, and the pundits and journos have been predicting the drop from the top four since at least 2008-09. The negative press has built up for a long period of time. If Wenger had won the FA Cup in recent years (I think the league and Champion's League are nigh on impossible at the moment and the League Cup wouldn't slake the thirst) then this would have eased the pressure a large amount, but he's failed to do so.
According to Piers Morgan, himself an Arsenal supporter, fans should stop looking at Wenger 'through romantic, nostalgic glasses' and see that a change is needed. The turning point may well be Arsenal's league position at the end of season if Wenger is still in charge. A top four place may ensure his survival, but no Champions League place next season will probably result in his departure.
