Just some fun for you tw(a)tfishes since our regular thread starter is banned at the moment.

If the top teams in England could sign any one player from one of their PL rivals, who do you think it would be?

Obviously there are two sides to it: What area does the team need to strengthen, and who is the club's best player(s)?

Here's my take on it, let me know what you guys think.

    Manchester United would sign:

    Man City - Y. Toure
    Chelsea - Mata
    Spurs - Bale
    Arsenal - Wilshere
    Everton - Fellaini
    Liverpool - Suarez

This is strongly influenced by needing to strengthen our midfield, although I think Bale, Suarez and Fellaini are all the standout performers in their teams so would get picked by most other teams.

    Manchester City would sign:

    Man United - RVP
    Chelsea - Cole
    Arsenal - Wilshere

    Chelsea would sign:

    Man United - Vidic
    Man City - Kompany
    Arsenal - Wilshere

    Arsenal would sign:

    Man United - RVP <laugh>
    Man City - Aguero
    Chelsea - Cole <laugh>

    Spurs would sign:

    Man United - RVP
    Man City - Aguero
    Chelsea - Mata
    Arsenal - Wilshere

I haven't included Liverpool or Everton as their squads are a lot weaker and just about any squad player in the other big teams would get into their 1st XI.

I doubt we'd sign three central midfield players all of whom would expect to play.

I'd have Baines from Everton instead of Fellaini.

I also reckon one or two of our rivals would plump for Rooney over RVP. Younger, lot more left in the tank. Especially City.

Would prefer Ramires from Chelsea - he's the type of player we need, and whilst he hasn't been as effective as Mata this season I rate Ramires higher as a player.

Think City would be better with Walcott than Wilshere - they've lacked pack and real incisiveness up front this season. And Chelsea might be better off with RVP than Vidic imo - they're poor at the back, but really need someone who will score important goals in big games.

Going back to the three central mid thing , I think I'd rather Fellaini than Toure if pushed so would probably take Kompany or Aguero from City but as we need neither that's why I went for Baines from Everton.

I thought the question was which one player would you sign and from which one rival.

For Utd I'd either go for Yaya or Ramires.

I think pretty much every other club in the division would go for RVP. Spurs, Chelsea and City are definitely missing a top drawer striker on form this season, and whilst Arsenal are weak everywhere I think they'd still benefit more from RVP's impact as a leader.

Rooney might be a good shout if teams are looking for a younger player with more seasons in him, but I don't think Chelsea or City would be interested - they already have similar quality players in the same role.

It is, but there must be some need involved. We are allowed to think about things.

So, who would you sign if given the opportunity and I would not sign three centre mid fields when we don't need three and do need a left back to replace Evra.

Mis read that, no it's one from each rival.

    Pedantic time again:

But if we're saying one from each rival then the team I'd make would be:

    ---------De Gea
    -Rafael-Vidic-Evans-Baines-
    -----Yaya-Cazorla----
    -Mata-Rooney-Bale-
    ---------RVP

    So:

    City - Yaya
    Chelsea - Mata
    Spurs - Bale
    Arsenal - Cazorla
    Everton - Baines

But that's mainly out of a need to balance the team - still rate Ramires higher, but there's no one to replace Mata on the right in that case.

Yeah I like Ramires, I think he'd be awesome in our team.

But I didn't want to just pick a central midfielder from each team, and Mata's so classy, I went for him...

As for questions about whether it's one player from each club etc, it's really up to you because you could look at it in multiple ways... But what I meant to ask was, "If you could pick one player from team X, who would it be?", and then I listed each of the possible teams that could be team X.

So technically I wasn't saying pick 5 players (one from each of the clubs), and I wasn't saying pick just one player. It's more like: Pick one player from Chelsea: OK, it's Ramires.

If the question was "Pick one player from City", then I'd go for Yaya, etc.

But the other ways work too, would be quite exciting to pick a dream team like Swarbs did by picking one from each rival and balancing your team accordingly.

Fair point, this would be another option:

    ---------De Gea
    -Rafael-Vidic-Evans-Baines-
    -----Yaya-Ramires----
    -Suarez-Rooney-Bale-
    ---------RVP

I rate Mata higher than Suarez, but Ramires higher than Cazorla so it probably balances out. I was just working my way down our genuine rivals, and ran out of spaces in the team by the time I'd reached 7th place <whistle>

I agree, Ramires is a very good player loads of energy and quality on the ball. Rafa seems to be doing a good job of destroying his game at the moment.

I would take Baines or Jagielka from Everton over Fellaini. Fellaini is much more effective when he's played just off the front man where he can use his height and strength in dangerous areas but United are already pretty damn strong up front, and he has never really impressed me when used as a holding midfielder.

If its just one player in total from any rival I'd have Bale. I know we don't really need him.

With all due respect RHC, Liverpool and Everton's squads (and Spurs and potentially Arsenal at the moment) are not nearly as strong as United, City and Chelsea's. Squad players like Hernandez, Nani, Young, Dzeko, Tevez, Kolarov, Ramires, Luiz, Oscar etc would all stand a good chance of comfortably making the 1st XI of those clubs... So this question was mainly aimed at the top 3 clubs with the biggest and strongest squads.
