Bit of a slow week so i thought we'd share our best memories of our trip through League 1 and the championship! Even though I'm sure we're all much happier in the premier league I always like to take a quick browse through the BBC and check out how some of the teams we used to play are going. My favorite moments would have to be when we came back from 2-0 to beat MK dons 3-2 in league 1 (afraid i can't find any footage of this match). Another favorite would have to be the hilarious game where we were getting dominated by Leeds but still ended up winning 1-0 due to Davis giving the best keeper displays I've seen in history! Would love to hear some of your favorite moments that aren't the promotion days.
The Leeds game for me as well, because there were at least a half-dozen times in that game where I thought "right, they're scoring from this", only to see us survive through a combination of good fortune and Kelvin Davis. After that scrum in front of goal, when they hit the crossbar twice, I just started laughing...it seemed as if the universe was conspiring to get us promoted, because it seemed entirely impossible that we'd survived that kind of onslaught for that long. Beyond that, the Millwall game. Wasn't televised, so I was listening in on a bootleg stream of Millwall's radio broadcast, and this forum was in a full-fledged meltdown. We were bottling it, we weren't good enough for promotion, yadda yadda yadda. Then, Rickie wins a penalty and converts...relief that we'd get something from it. No sooner had that happened than we got another penalty, and suddenly Rickie has a hat trick and we're closing out a win.
loved that leeds game, was incredible to watch live. I didn't enjoy the start of the premier league but i think I have enjoyed this season more than the previous two. It was good though winning so many games and playing good football throughout
Personally I loved going to Stadium MK and not just because it's local to me. Great site, easy access, plenty of parking, plenty of real food outlets behind the away stand, friendly stewards, the biggest and most comfortable padded seats, great view and out numbered/out sung the home fans.
Went to MK Dons for the 3-0 win (Rickie's superb third goal lives long in the memory!) and 2-0 defeat (Adkins first game in charge). So rather different emotions in the matches! But loved the 3-0 win - that was epic. I think it was Rickie's first hattrick for Saints as well. The Millwall game will always be my number 1 however. I will never forget those last 10 minutes! The Plymouth game was epic as well and who could forget home to Coventry on the last day of last season? Lots of brilliant memories over the last few seasons - and there's 4 people to thank for that: Alan Pardew (he got the ball rolling on our rise back up the leagues and signed Rickie), Nigel Adkins (back to back promotions), Nicola Cortese (made some brave decisions in terms of manager changes and his lofty ambitions for the club has seen us progress very rapidly) and last but certainly not least Markus Liebherr. His takeover of the club came at a time when we were all fearing for the future of our club and he is the number 1 reason why we are where we are. RIP Markus.
Usual suspects...Wembley, Hammond's goal in the Championship, Coventry game last season. Unbelievable end to the Millwall game...but there were many other games. The thing I really loved...Pompey fan telling me that the Championship would be tough and being able to smirk and give him the thumbs up almost every week.
My GF's first ever Saints game against MK Dons and we won 3-1. She (a ginger lass) shouted at Lewington 'You f@cking ginger knob-head' from Row OO and he appeared to have noticed as he immediately passed the ball straight to Connelly to make it 3-1 in injury time. We had made a bet before the game on 3-1 too
Here's a dishonorable mention
Pie, chips and gravy at Hartlepool @ £3-50p was most welcome.. crap game 0-0 but brilliant atmosphere..
The Millwall game was incredible, the JPT semi-final against MK Dons (and obviously the final), and as mentioned the MK Dons 2-1 to 3-2 game... mainly because when Forte was subbed on I got pissed off, I said to my at-the-time girlfriend who I had dragged to the match, "This is ****ing ridiculous, we need points here and we've brought on Jonathan ****ing Forte"... needless to say, half an hour later I had eaten my words.
I loved every moment, except losing at Tranmere twice in a row as when I was living in Liverpool most of my mates supported Rovers as their second team. What I loved most was meeting fans of other clubs. The JPT final was a great day out, partly because of the football chat we had with Carlisle fans before the game. I'll never forget Hartlepool fans applauding a superb Adam Lallana goal up at their place. The bon homie from opposition fans, especially in Division One, is what I'll carry as my memory.
I really enjoyed the opening game of the championship season. Sky, first game of the season and Leeds. No way we could win that one. But not only did we win but a brilliant display in the sunshine. It set us on our way for the rest of the season. Also, the Brighton 2-1 away. I was in the car and we were 1-0 down, very depressing, promotion dreams over. Again it was a sunny day so when I got home I kicked a ball around the garden whilst listening to it on the radio. Then 1-1 and amazingly 2-1. I started dong somersaults and other crazy things, which at my age was not very sensible! Two great games among many.
Millwall away, the atmosphere and the way we won that game was incredible. My best ever away day experience! And as someone mentioned above was at Boro as well and that goal within a minute made the stadium erupt with cheers
Tbh, the whole game was pretty good. Boro were totally dismayed at the end. Other best memories..? Can't leave out the JPT Final because it was such fun. The Brighton match at the end of the second season in League One. In the Championship, the Boro match above and the last day against Coventry. Plenty of others, but then I have to mention nearly all of them.
mk dons 3-2! norwich at home in the jpt southern semi final - papa scoring the last minute equaliser to get us to a penalty shootout.
