Which of the lads that got us promoted in 2009 would you rather have in the team than in the current one? Or do we all think this team is better than 2008-09. The 08-09 team Im referring to is the typical starting line-up from the lads that burst through in the last couple of months to push for autos:

    Royce

    Fuller
    Richards
    King
    Nutter

    Weston
    Josh Wright
    Lewis

    Oli
    Jackson
    Barcham

Bare in mind im talking about the team as if they were on form and playing under Stimson, not how some of them played under Hess. I would have Josh Wright back in the team straight away although maybe Gregory can improve. Also as most of you know I am a massive fan of Simon King so he would still be in my squad although I do admit he would struggle to get into the team at the moment. Also Barcham in the team to give competition to Weston would be nice but hopefully Williams can offer that now.

I am basing on that season for the 2009 team and this season for our team now.
It is tough to compare some due to the difference in formation.

Royce Vs Nelson- Royce was a top keeper but at the end of his career so I go for Nelson as he still has time left.

Fuller Vs Fish- Fish has improved a lot and even though Fuller was a good player I go for Fish
Richards Vs Legge- Richards was great that season but Legge is top class, Legge all day long.
King Vs Barrett- This one is tough, King before the injuries was brilliant and Barrett is a top player but I go for King as I was a big fan of him.
Nutter Vs Martin- Nutter was good but now Martin is better he is better than him.

Weston Vs Whelpdale- At the time Weston was great but I feel that Whelpdale has always had more about him so I go for Whelpdale.
Josh Wright Vs Frampton- NO contest Josh Wright, I have chosen Frampton to be compared as he is the main one to start there.
Lewis Vs Lee- I would go for Lee as I think that he is a better player and at times he is brilliant.

Oli Vs McDonald- No contest here, McDonald all day long.
Jackson Vs Burton- Burton is a good player but Jackson is top class, Jackson for me.
Barcham Vs Weston- Barcham was a top player at the time but Weston is now, this is really tough like the King Vs Barrett one, I would go Weston due to more pace.

I have compared McDonald to Oli Burton would play in the middle if we played 4-3-3 and McDonald to the right of him where Oli is on here, also comparing Jackson to McDonald is tough, but if you wanted to know who I would choose between McDonald and Jackson I would choose Jackson because he is better obviously because look where he is now, yeah I know this is not based on where they are now but Jackson just done a bit more, McDonald is a top player but Jackson has a little bit more to his game in pace and dribbling.

    So my team would be;

    Nelson

    Fish
    Legge
    King
    Martin

    Whelpdale
    Josh Wright
    Lee

    McDonald
    Jackson
    Weston

One problem, not much height up there but the ball would have to be played on the floor a lot more.

Wouldn't argue with your choices Hoadie, I would have Nutter for Martin, purely on personal preference and he was particularly good at Wembley. I would also line up more 4 4 2 with Weston and Whelpdale on the wings

Yeah I would go 4-4-2 as well that was what made it harder to choose.

A good comparison which i have to say the current side is better. With that in mind we should be going up. Only Jackson would definetly be in the team. King and Wright could also possibly be in the team.
I wish we had Stimsons form at home and Allens form away, we would have smashed this league.
I think this team is more like the Pulis team when we were hard to beat.

You can't have everything if we had Stimson's home form and Allen's away form we would probably already be up as we would have only lost 1 or 2 and would have won nearly every game with only a few other drawn.

I didn't even notice his mistake but don't have a clue how he done that, was you on a phone as it may be the autocorrection that done that as that is the only way I think it could do that other than usual mistake.

I reckon if we could have put out that team that Hoadie picked, they wouldn't have lost any!!

Cody and Jacko up top. Frightening.
Fit & in form Kingy at the back. I'm drooling....

Nice one, really interesting debate this one.

Simeon and Cody combo would be great... but surely too similar for a strike partnership? Well I'm gonna try and showhorn them in by playing 4-3-3:

GK: Royce (JUST - if we're talking about a long term team, then it would be Nelson)

    RB: Fish
    CB: King
    CB: Barrett
    LB: Martin

    M: Whelpdale
    M: J Wright
M: C Weston (based on his 08/09 season versus Lee's form this season - Curtis just wins out)

    RF: Jackson
    CF: McDonald
    LF: Barcham

What a team!! An honourable mention for Myles Weston, who narrowly loses out to Barcho.

Id hardly call Josh Wright a part of the 08/09 side. Fair enough he did well enough when he was with us but he only played about 5 times for us if my memory serves correct. For what its worth here is my combined side:

    Royce

    Fish
    Legge
King (Don't know how some people can even debate this one. He is number 1 name on the teamsheet for me in this hypothetical combined XI.)
    Martin

    Whelpdale
    Charlie Lee
    Jack Payne
    Barcham

    Burton
    McDonald

Controversial i know as i have left Jackson out, but i dont believe Jackson and McDonald would work well together, and i have to go for McDonald due to him scoring 10 more goals for us in his full season with us when we were a worse side and he didnt take pens

Jackson would be a very able replacement however.

I'm surprised no-one has paired Bayo with Cody. They were one of the best pairings we've had (since Cas and Shearer) and Bayo has scored loads this year.

Hi Vinney, the point of this thread is to compare the current team against the team that got promoted in 08/09 not just random good players we have had in the past <cheers>
