Omg, I below par first half against one of the best midfield and defenses in the world in a position he hasn't played in that much means he was "broken"?
Wilshere wasn't 'broken' at all. He struggled, as did the whole team in the 1st half, but he was one of the only players who was trying to force something to happen. You lashing out at players in an attempt to attribute blame, is clouding your judgement.
But our midfield isn't static that it would prohibit him from seeking the ball. He looked the least motivated I've seen him this season. How many times did you see Kos, Mert and Arteta just give up looking for free players? They weren't opening up.
I didn't single out Wilshere. I said only Arteta looked the only really mentally tough player we had... meaning everyone else didn't... that is singling out Arteta positively, not Wilshere negatively. And Wilshere looked lost 1st half, didn't see him trying to force something. My judgement has only been proven on many things tonight. Re: Szczesny, Walcott CF against non-**** defenses (though that's Wenger's fault), Vermaelen (re: everything). I don't see how I have misjudged the performance. If I have interfered with the cult-like idolization of some players here, I'm sorry.
Who the **** said he did? If I say Arteta was better than Wilshere am I committing blasphemy or something?
I have said it before on here, not one of our defenders would get onto a top team in all of Europe. Nothing to do with our midfielders. But on that subject Diaby, Rosicky, Ramsey, Arteta, Gervinho, Arshaven would not get on any other top team in Europe. As for our strikers Giroud and Podolski are not consistent enough and Wenger can't decide if Walcot is a striker or not. I would like to go back to a 4-4-2 system. Our successive season's had this system. Walcot should be of front with another striker possibly Giroud or Podolski. They might be better seen in this roll. We also lack leadership. Why is one of our youngest players (Wiltshire) the only leader on the pitch. Vermalen does not lead, neither does any of the other senior players, Sagna, Mertz, Rosicky etc I would suggest that we need more than a defender and a defensive midfielder. I would think we need at least 6 new players. It's an over haul that is needed.
I thought Ramsey was okay and Podolski came into it well, don't know why he was subbed ? Blaming Wilshere is just so wide of the mark though, it's laughable. He was practically the only player trying to force the issue and make something happen for us. I can understand fans get upset when we lose, but honestly, some of the lashing out at the wrong players just makes them look like they haven't really understood the game.

But in that forward role, playing against that team, it was vital that Wilshere did not drop too deep especially with our back line also playing deep, because then our forward would have been even more isolated than he was. I said before the game, that Walcott's link play was not good enough against a team like Bayern and with Walcott not being able to win any flicks on, Wilshere in that role had nothing to run onto and get the ball in good positions. He has plenty to learn about how to play that role, but Wilshere is most certainly not a player that 'hides' from the ball.
Its close to it it seems , its strange but from what i saw Jack was his usual self. I would be hard put to see much if any contribution from Arteta , i barely noticed him on the pitch .
blasphemer !! this is podolski.................. the pod . are we talking about the same guy .? The one who scored tonite .?
He isn't generally a player that hides from the ball. This game and in the first half he was. Rooney from a support striker position comes back to look for the ball more often for ****'s sake. Playing AM doesn't mean you can't come back to make things happen. Especially since there really was no action upfront that he would have had to 'sacrifice'.
And that's where we are disagreeing with you. I don't know why you are getting so defensive about it ? Making patronising comments about cult idolization, isn't really very helpful and just demonstrates that it's your frustration which seems to cloud your judgement. Wilshere wasn't 'broken' by any stretch of the imagination. Nobody is giving him 'cult' protection, they are simply disagreeing with you that he wasn't a 'mentally tough' player as you put it.
