Leicester phone in. "Chris Powell wins man of the match with his tactics, formation and substitutions" I am not making this up.
Interesting thing was the commentators kept emphasising that Powell outwitted Pearson tactically. Firstly to control the midfield by playing 5 across then by bringing on Haynes to keep Leicester stretched. Obviously picked the right team. I never thought we could win by playing a chihuahua (Pritchard) and a poodle (Stephens) in midfield. I thought we needed at least one pitbull. I was wrong. So pleased for Powell and Kermorgant. It must mean a lot to them to win at Leicester and to win by playing well.
"Chris Powell came today and he is tactically a better manager than Nigel Pearson" - another Leicester fan. This is very unusual
Phones should be used for making phonecalls only. I don't hold with all this new-fangled technology. When I grew up our house was only one of two in a street of fifty houses to have a phone. And the other guy was an auxiliary fireman so he got his for free. Bah humbug!
What with the u21s beating the second-placed team 4-0 yesterday I am suddenly feeling brighter. My only regret was the Doctor didn't bring Kerkar on to score a hat-trick just to spite WWOCB.
Has been dreadful tactically for most of the season if we are brutally honest but all he needs to do is show he can adapt like he did today on a consistent basis, and maybe not take so long to do so next time. So happy weve taken 3 points, but still not happy with the season so far, should be in the play off places comfortably
I managed to call the fire-engines out three times with malicious hoax calls, but as we were the only other phone in the street he started to suspect me. Later he moved to Sheffield to become a professional fireman and retired as a millionaire.
Miserable git! Enjoy the moment! Who knows when the next one will come along? And let's all laugh at Millwall, too.
I see you picked up on the reference! No, we were one of only three homes with a car, too. It was a working-class street but my father made some extra money in the black market and "flapping" greyhounds (if that expression is still used?) When the firebell sounded outside his house (often waking up the whole f*king street) the fireman would rush out in his vest and braces and pedal off on his bike with a wet sack over his shoulder to help beat the flames out. I don't think auxiliaries were allowed to play with the hoses.
Just got back (living only 10 minutes away from the king prawn stadium) What a game, Powell was tactically spot on today, we went 1-1 and he takes off a defender for it and brings on Haynes, his goal a true wordly. Good performance all round, fans, manager, ref, players, great game. Hamer - 7 Superb save towards the end from a deflected drive, 2 scares but we got away with it Solly - 7 Kept them at bay but he was out paced a few times, still dogg-ed defending. Morro/Cort - 8 Solid at the back headers all day long Wiggins - 7 Skinned once but kept his head, we have missed him and he is welcomed back with open arms Waggy - 6 played LM, ran caused problems but didn't exactly impact on the game Stephens - 6 I like him alot, fave player but today was an off day, calm and composed but missing the ball and vision he normally has Jacko - 6 Got booked for a silly tackle and needs a right foot, was calm and just Jacko, nothing special, never really appeared Dervite - 7 Everywhere first half, throwing himself in front of tackles and shots, brilliant, glad he came off though needed some attacking threat Pritchard - 9 MOTM, I have never liked him, thought he is a league 2 player, and I probs would have sold him in the summer, tonight he proved me wrong, he was brilliant, every time kermit won a header he was there, he was calm on the ball, nice link up play with Kermit and Solly, and even skinned Konchesky a few times, yeah he's slow but he was just brilliant today Kermit - 9 Superb performance, him and Pritchard joint MOTM probably is fiar, He won everything in the air and I mean EVERYTHING, took his goal really well, was good like up and kept his head when unchallenged, didn't flick it on like he often does, chested it down, control and simple pass, class act and a Cult Hero for sure Subs Haynes - 7 Didnt do much, ran around but his goal was out of this world, for once Powell's options worked, was brilliant goal and yeah, didn't pull up either Taylor/Wilson - N/A not enough time on the pitch Powell 10/10 He clearly had Leicester sussed and for once his subs (although a reaction to fans chanting and us going behind) came off perfectly, great game all round BRILLIANT, COYR
TED, glad you did go and had a good time there. Thank you very much for the report. It was very hard to get a sense of the game, so good to know about Pritchard's performance. eddie, was that when you took up your mudlarking?
WTF is wrong with the BBC Sport website? According to them, most of the games haven't even kicked off yet. Strewth in Heaven.
Thanks for humouring me, Irish, but I think it is time to draw a line under my silliness. I was just feeling lightheaded with the wonderfulness of it all. Mods have my permission to change my description from "Senior Member" to "Senile Member". I have to go and lie down now. It is 7pm here and nearly my bedtime. Strange you should mention "mudlarking". It is of course the riparian equivalent of "beachcombing", a profession I may need to take up shortly unless my finances improve radically on this disfunctional but entertaining island.
