At least some of the Newcastle sites are being realistic about this: http://www.newcastleunited-mad.co.uk/news/tmnw/puncheon_rumour_is_old_news_784036/index.shtml Reminding us that AP tried to sign Punch 18 months ago.
I seem to remember going through this previously at some point. Long story short, it probably is a Norman French name. Not so sure about "Jason" though!
Isn't it measure of liquid, for example, rum..? I choose rum because I'm right in the middle of another Horatio Hornblower novel.
ITK new alert! A good friend of mine (John Demmy) assures me that Jason has signed a pre-contract agreement with Nicola which will commit him to Saints for the next four years! It's kept in the locked cabinet at St Marys, and filed under "Puncheon Voucher"
Puncheon is also a type of rum that is distilled here in Trinidad. An overproof type that is labled as ....not less than 74% by volume or 148 proof......horrible stuff by itself but quite easily masked with a chaser.......still rocket fuel no matter how you dress it up. The name has actually got quite a few people taking notice of the saints out here...our last couple matches have helped as well....found another fan last week.......so that makes 3 of us.
