Note: Impersonating accounts for the F1 World Championship Game

Afternoon gents (and ladies - do we have any ladies??)

Some of you may have seen on the Season 2 Round 6 thread that our supermod brb has banned a user called "BrightLampShede", on the grounds of impersonating a mod. I'm sure it was just one of you guys competing in the championship messing around and meant nothing malicious (I'm sure we all remember "Poca Montoya"). I believe the person in question has apologised to brb, and I think that's the end of that matter.

Basically, I just want to say if we could stop with the extra accounts that would be grand. It isn't worth the extra hassle for brb, who has enough on his plate with more disruptive boards. Equally, if we could stop with the name changes to mimic others ("cosicave" and "cosicave." spring to mind), then we'd really appreciate it as it reduces the risk of brb banning someone who meant no harm. He clearly can't keep an eye on every board all the time, so individual quirks like these, which are usually associated with an attempt to WUM, etc, are more likely to result in a stronger reaction than some of you may anticipate, as you're being judged in a wider context.

No harm done by anyone, so if we could just move on and try and keep things straightforward on the username front in the future, that'd be great. Sorry to spoil a couple of peoples fun in the championship, it's just simpler this way.

Can we also keep an eye on the new members, that came about yesterday and today. Nothing personal. It is just weird that they arrived without saying hello, or anything more as a newcomer would say.
Just a thought. I don't want to put people of joining though.

 

Not guilty me lud... Can't say the same for Poca though. Guilty as charged on that one.

 

EMSC, personally I don't expect everyone to start with a "Hi all" type thread/post, I know I certainly didn't when I joined, and don't when I interact on other boards, it's just a case of personal preference. In the same way I don't have a problem with people wanting to introduce themselves, and if people want a "Say hi!" thread stickied within off-topic, to make it easier for people to introduce themselves, then that's fine by me too.

If you're worried about WUMs returning, then I think a new account from the same IP as another (banned or current) account flashes up a warning in brb's control panel, and as demonstrated in this case (and one we've currently got ongoing on the NCFC board), he's been pretty hot on it. I don't think we've got anything to worry about in this respect at the moment.

Oh, could people who haven't already posted in some form do so, so that I know who has and hasn't seen this? With hindsight a check-box on a poll would have been more straightforward.

I joined today, the reason I do not say hello is because I am a regular on forums (Not this one obviously) but am a member of others and have been using forums like these for years. I have just become used to getting straight to the threads and getting involved. Also I don't really see the use in saying hi, just to get a hi in response...doesn't appeal to me haha

I'm very much with you there Cristòfol, I'd rather people got to know me through what I say, than an arbitrary introduction which doesn't really offer anything. With our recent recruits, someone tends to notice pretty quickly that we've not seen them before, so they usually get some kind of welcome from us anyway.

Incidentally, if you need any help with using the forum (if you're used to them I doubt you will, but still) then BrightLampShade, El_Bando, and myself are the F1 mods, and we'll try our best with any queries. We used to have some House rules obvious somewhere, but I can't find where they've gone right now. "Do unto others..." tends to cover it in a nutshell really though. As we're starting to get more new recruits, it might be worth me, BLS and El_B putting them up somewhere visibly for a little while.

It seems you can get away with cloning a member, but the admin stick will strike you down with righteous fury if you try it with a mod.
