After the City/Arsenal results we were gutted not to win, but everyone was saying we were looking good and Rodgers has us moving in the right direction. Then came the WBA game, we dominated and created chances as expected but couldn't capitalize with the chances we got and it cost us. All of the sudden we are talking about potentially replacing Rodgers and we are moving backwards. It's understandable that a knee jerk reaction would come off such a damaging defeat. We were starting to look up again and there was a glimmer of hope of fighting for top 4. That defeat all but ended any chance we have and has raised questions on our consistency for the rest of the season. We played a weak Swansea team, scraping through with a 1-0 win would have been concerning and when you play a team as weak as that you expect to win comfortably at least. Job done IMO but what are you expecting from the team and Rodgers now? For me it is consistency. We haven't won 3 games in a row for a while now and I would like to see us achieve that at some point this season. EDIT: I also notice we are 13 points behind last season's total, beating that by 10 points would be nice.
Not going to get ahead of myself after the emphatic win against Swansea. As you have said, we've been very inconsistent this year. I will say that we instantly look a much better outfit when Sturridge is playing and he is crucial to this team - if he and Suarez can keep fit til the end of the season, I'm positive we will improve our league position from last year. I'm still aiming for a top 6 finish
In addition, we have scored 49 goals this season compared to the 47 last season - and we still have 11 games to go. Not bad considering we played with one striker for the first half of the season
So we actually have a worse goal difference for it too then. Still, more entertaining to watch I suppose
Adding to my point about keeping Sturridge and Suarez together until the end of the season: Suarez is currently on 8 yellows. Players receiving 10 yellos between the 1st day of the season to April 14th will receive a 2 match ban. Suarez has 7 games until that date.
Query... At the start of the season, you pick up a one match ban after collecting five bookings. It is then extended to ten yellow cards later in the season. However, with Suarez, he collected five before the increase and served a one match ban. Does this not mean that he restarts from zero since he has served the punishment? If not, it seems a bit unfair because he is effectively being punished twice. What happens if a player picks up ten yellow cards before the increase?
Not sure to be honest - some reporter on Twitter said the above and I thought I'd share it. Not sure if it's 100% correct though
It's always been the same, so it's not unfair at all. Pick up 5 bookings within 4 months at the start of the season & get a 1 match ban, pick up another 5 in the next 4 months & get a 2 match ban.
Those figures are incorrect. Liverpool are three points worse off than they were after 26 matches of the 2011-12 campaign. They have conceded nine goals more and won one game fewer. The only credit in Rodgers’ bank is the total of 44 goals scored – 14 more than this time a year ago. But Liverpool are two places below their position at the equivalent point last season EDIT: those figures were pre-yesterdays game
We actually know where we are. Forget the hype and the depression. The vast majority of us entered the season knowing that we were, once again, 'work in progress'. The great forward debacle made things even worse. The initial fixtures did us no favours and the results left us with a 'here we go again' feeling. Since January things have appeared to have improved again. So let's hope that this trend continues. That's where we presently stand.
You missed my point. If a players picked up five bookings in the first four months he gets a one match ban, fair enough. What happens if he picks up ten bookings in the opening four months? Do they get another one match ban? If so, Suarez (used as an example only here) served his one match ban for five yellows already but faces the possibility of another ban in the next four month period for just five further cards? The player who got ten in the opening four months effectively restarted at zero after serving his ban. This is obviously the same for all players. It is obviously fair in that the rules apply to all players.
