Carey Mulligan is worth watching drivel for. She was very good in 'An Education' but I first heard of her watching 'Northanger Abbey' which is surprisingly good for a period drama and also stars felicity Jones who happens to be my future Wife (she is yet to find this out)
One my favourites is from my childhood when I used to be fascinated by the animation techniques - Jason and the Argonauts. The fight sequence with the skeletons is amazing and to think it is over 50 years old! Another film way ahead of its time for special effects is 'The Thing.' I remember watching it late one night on ITV when I was about 12 or 13 and properly **** myself when the Doc tried to resuscitate someone with the defibulator and his chest opened up and then bit the Docs arms off! Awesome film.
Oh man this is a really awesome thread. I love movies and have a lot of opinions on them. I'm not sure where to start. Here's a starting point. To me all movies, old or new, have to be put up against the Indiana Jones Trilogy. It's the yardstick of which I measure all other movies. It's the movie that completely won me over as a kid and has stayed with me ever since. no other group of movies has so much in it and works so well in my opinion. And I said TRILOGY the fourth one DOES NOT COUNT.
Back to the Future tops my trilogy list, marginally beating In Indianna Jones... the last crusade I still consider as one of the finest movies ever made in fact I may just go and watch it now..
Back to the future is a fine trilogy as well. I respect it hugely for tying up in 3 movies and resisting the urge for more. Very well rounded, good characters, good writing, memorable moments and the catchy theme song/s. Basically a home run. Nothing is quite as 80's as Marty McFly!
If you are talking trilogies then Hannibal Lecter has to come close. Anthony Hopkins' acting is superb. And despite all of its holes, I still love Star Wars IV-VI. I can't wait until my little lad is a little older so I have a legitimate reason to watch them again!
I'm just not bothered about batman. I always think of Adam West in the TV Series, which I liked as a kid. BANGGGG, THRRRRAAAAPPPP, BOSSSSHHH! Funny as hell but it left me not thinking of batman as a true superhero when compared to others.
It's very much my generations trilogy. Absolutely amazing set of films and Christopher Nolan, is a motherfucking genius. He's the new hitchcock. Inception will make you **** myour pants it's so good.
Beef has just reminded me of another good film, Hitch and Seven Pounds. While we're on Will Smith Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was good.
Loved the fresh prince, every day after the simpsons on bbc 2. Another life lesson from uncle phil lol
I don't know why but there are two scenes from The Fresh Prince that stick with me. One where Will Smith's father abandons him again, shows that he's such a good actor. Also, when Will is playing dumb and him and Phil are saying so,etching about baseball 'where man hit with ball with stick and run' then Phil grabs him by the back of the shirt as he runs.
When it comes to "superhero" films, you can't beat 'Watchmen', fantastic film, definitely up there with my all time favourite films!
I remember the scene with Wills father abansoning him again. Wills like "Why doesn't he want me" and i was like "UNCLE PHILS YOUR REAL DAD WILL! WAHHHHH" lol
Just remembered Scrubs, that was good but the last few moments of the final episode were ruined I think.
Yeah, I'll vouch for watchmen too, really, really good. Has anyone seen Looper? I thought calling it "this generations Matrix" was quite a strong billing, but I was pretty impressed.
'The Damned United' is a good football film, about Brian Clough's short reign as Leeds manager, well worth watching!
