Someone has tweeted about being out on the raz with a city player, http://https://mobile.twitter.com/Jbmfd/status/302966139137437697/photo/1 Mixed feelings, entitled to enjoy himself, but also bit angry he isn't applying himself. How do others feel?
I cannot see what he has to celebrate in all honesty. If I was surplus to requirements and in need of proving my worth to future employers I wouldn't be see out and about getting drunk like that. Go around most academies nowadays and you will find that attitude is scored as highly as any of the talents you may possess. If you cannot apply yourself then you are a liability to the team. I've always had a lot of time for Martin's abilities but knowing that he has a young daughter and still he cannot get focused enough to keep fit and work his bollox off to provide for her just saddens and repulses me. Good riddance now. Find yourself a decent League 1 outfit where you'll bang in a few goals and if you do well enough maybe get another contract but I wouldn't be confident that he could even do that now! How many of us would love to have his talents? As has been documented many times before - what a waste
I remember the massive cheer that went up when it was announced he had signed a new contract that seems a longtime ago now
Having talent is one thing. But to use that talent you need to put in a lot of effort. C Ronaldo, Messi et al may well be full of world class talent but they didn't make it on to the list of all time greats without putting in all the time and effort they have. Another player that's gone the way of C Martin and is a good example of where C Martin will end up is Michael Johnson at Man City who had has contract ended last month. He was tipped for a bright future but while on loan in the Championship this season he could barely make it off the bench. It's a shame to see people with all this talent go to waste.
One day when C Martin is old and grey (if he gets to be old and grey), he'll look back, cringe and say; "What an absolute tosser I was, it could have been so different". The thing is, it still could be if he changed his attitude and knuckled down. Sadly I can't see that happening, he definitely is a tosser !
I doubt he'll look back with regret - he'll make a decent enough living doing what he does - and he never had that hunger you need to make it to the top. he's happy enough, just disappointing because he could've been so much better if he had given his all... As for being out on the town - he's not made the team in months - been out loan etc - should he not leave the house past dark/not go for a drink with mates? Bugs me that supporters think they have any say in what the clubs players do off the pitch.
Really harsh comparison IMO considering Johnson was ravished with injuries and suffered mental illness. Martin is just a prat.
It's not the fact that he goes for a drink, it's the fact that he's proved time and again that he can't be trusted to behave himself after a few drinks!
This ^ and the fact that a footballer's career is so short and there's plenty of time for getting rat-arsed when you finish playing in your thirties. Still, it's his life, if he wants to throw away the chance of being a top player and the wages that go with it, it's his prerogative
Jesus christ have a word with yourselves you lot. They've got a weekend off I really don't see the big deal. What pisses me more off is Holt gloating about going out in Manchester after getting battered 5-0 by Liverpool.
You've completely countered yourself here. 'You're saying. Don't have a go at a player who has done poorly who just wants a night out. But what pisses me off is a player who has been poor and doesn't deserve a night out.'
Hardly, Chris Martin has only just returned back from loan with a considerable amount of fallout, he knows his 5th in the pecking order in a team which plays one forward, the chances of him playing so us again are slim so I have no problem with him going out. Our astute Skipper on the other hand baring in mind 2000 or so fans braved hazardous conditions to reach Liverpool, spent most of the game falling over feebly then after being humiliated for a second time running by the same team, seemed more bothered tweeting about his night on the tiles in Manchester. Certain players at this club have a free licence to do what the like when others do stuff it's like they've committed a war crime.
I will say this in defence of our skipper, I have never heard a whisper of trouble caused by him on a night out! CM on the other hanjd has had court appearances and banning orders from every pub in his home town! No comparison!
Yes, it's not exactly something you'd want to put on the achievement section of you CV. For years I have argued with people about Martin my father being one of his biggest critics. What I don't understand is the constant witch hunt our fans are on, at this club the minute your perceived to have a slight attitude then you're effectively finished with certain sections of our support. In the League One season when he played fairly well there were sections of the crowd calling for his head, so in fairness I can sort of understand why players like that have an attitude. Just to clear one thing up he should of been sold in the summer.
