You've got a point there mate, retired before he is forty! It's not right.

Not that I'd swap with him; risking his life in burning building and cutting people out of car crashes, I couldn't do it. I'm in awe of all of our emergency services. Thankfully Nines doesn't talk about it......

Tough one...love playing tennis, and enjoy a round of golf...had a wonderful round of golf in Florida last year, but mainly the rough and ready sport of table tennis. Used to play for a club in acton when I lived in London. Now mainly just running from French people after inappropriate jokes.

Played Billiards on occasionally but never really got into it. The pool I played was whichever colour ball you potted first, that was your colour. You then had to pot all your coloured balls and then nominate a pocket for the black. Some people played that you stuck to that particular pocket for the black and others let you nominate a pocket each time you went for it. Much preferred snooker. One of the hardest games to master in my opinion.

Sorry, I read your post wrong. I thought you meant you potted all the balls on the table only for the other bloke to come in and sink the black.
That's how they play it in the States. There's no red/yellow, spots/stripes. You just pot everything in sight and the winner is the one who pots the black!

    Agreed. A proper skilful game.

I was undisputed Champion but Imaz beat me on points in the recent title fight

P.S. COL, in my local Club a couple of years ago, the late Alex Higgins came in to play an exhibition. I didn't get to play him but I watched him play some of the lads. He still had it. Easily beat them all, putting in a couple of century's in the process. He was playing for 50 euro a frame. He was so skint he was living in a caravan somewhere in Dublin at the time. I had trouble distinguishing him from the Cue stick he was holding, he looked that bad! He had wasted away to almost nothing. He died not long after.

A sad end to a sporting great.

Reading all this has made me realise how one track minded I am. It's football all the way nowadays. I think that's largely due to time constraints. At school, we only played football for the first term of the year, which was a shame. The second term, I played a little known game called Fives - basically smashing a small cork ball around a concrete court with padded gloves. Great game. Then in the summer, it was cricket or athletics. I'd throw the javelin and shot put. Used to love the way the javelin flew, spinning and the tip and tail twitching.

Wouldn't have thought to mention until reading Col and Sword's conversation, but snooker is probably my second favorite sport to watch on tv. Blows me away, how good they are. A century is pretty special Col.

So without reading all the replies, I'm gonna stick my neck out and say I'm unique on this one.
Skiing? anyone else mentioned that yet. I used to teach in Europe (Andorra mainly). was quite a side show attraction being a black man teaching skiing. Nothing else came close
Always loved martial Art. Did Tae kwondo for 14 years, judo for 2, karate for a year, Maui thia in thialand for a year.
Did a bit of boxing but not really good enough to compete at a decent level.
used to train at Hayes ABC and TKD at a club in Harrow on sat's called "The brotherhood". All full contact, only Black belts & above and mainly big people with an attitude. One of the guys represented GB in the Olympics in its debut year.
Got knocked out a few times but loved to skill and combat.
never really bought into golf, but coming from a cricket mad family (west indian) was rammed down my throat, mainly because my dad played for Middlesex &has 1 England cap (back in the day when you used to actually get a cap. My older brother still coaches Harrow & middlesex youth sides.

I did represent Middlesex in the AAA at 100metres too. got down to 10.7 seconds but fell out of love with that. Still love re-watching ben johnsons win though....absolute class!

So basically, skiing and fighting....is that odd?
PS....Snowboarders are ****ers that just can't ski!

Interesting thread this. Although I enjoy most sports it's all about the footy for me. But if I had to pick a second sport it would probably be Formula One. The last few seasons have been cracking, and I love the noise the cars make and all the engineering side of it.

Wrong! Icehockey is the most fastest teamsport and a game. Skiing is just something to do when you have only snow and no ice......;) Kitzbuhel is a piece of cake with skis but try it with skates..........<party>

Higgins was my all time snooker hero. Clearly a bit of a Gazza, but a terrible shame none the less. Such incredible natural ability. I never played any of the top players, but I did play Cliff Wilson when he visited our club and I was the reigning Club Champion. I didn't play too badly and he was half pissed, but he still beat me almost with his eyes closed.
I also watched Steve Davis in an exhibition at Pontins before he was famous. Ray Reardon had fallen ill and couldn't make it and Davis stood in for him. He was very nervous, but you could see the potential. Me and my Dad both said that we thought he was going to be very good............we were right!

Still none in my lifetime though. :D , the flyers have a few in my lifetime but I didnt even know the sport existed at that point. My teams have never won a final since Ive been supporting them. QPR 0-2 (Milk cup and play offs) Flyers 0-3 Stanley Cups.
