Naughton did indeed. Fryers did enough today to convince me he is the future BAE for attacking anyway (much of the Spurs threat, especially in the 1st half came from him +/- link play with Cabellos) .
Thanks for the info RDBD, much appreciated. Did United field any overage players? I remember they had Lindegard and Fletcher when we played them earlier in the season.
I'm going by the media, but it seems so. Sounds like we were in control, for the most part, but Utd's site called him 'outstanding'. http://www.manutd.com/en/Players-An...x?newsid=81613EBE-0321-4874-A6AD-E0D878CD6A5E Another reason why we don't need 5 centre-backs, perhaps?
Not surprising that they're calling our centre-back outstanding though, masks their impotence in attack. I've always thought Jake would make a good centre back, he's not dissimilar to Caulker in build and playing style. At least it looks as though the days of playing Hudd at centre-back seem to have passed
A team with Naughton/Livermore/Carroll/Kane in it requires more critical assessment. The Man Utd ITKs I chatted with said their best U21 strikers were out injured or on loan. And a couple of other U21 first team selections were not available. Livermore : not "outstanding" , but very comfortable/tidy. Given that he is an MF by trade, he looked very Verty-esque in his passing/ running out of the back four.
Man Utd site has Obika down as an hat-trick !!?? SpursOffical had Cabellos/Obika/Obika. I and others thought Obika/Livermore / Obika. WTF.
YV : Don't have any info on the ages of the Man Utd players. Only what their ITKs said about the team that turned up today.
No worries, I saw the line up off the link PNP posted. All I meant was whether there were any players/names you recognised from United's first team, like how Lindegard and Fletcher had played in an earlier game against us. Looks like there weren't, the only name I recognised was that Powell that they signed in the summer.
Crashed out of the Youth Cup tonight, unfortunately. A slightly mental sounding game against Bolton ended up 8-4 to the visitors. 1-0 up, 3-1 down, 6-2 down, dragged it back to 6-4 and then conceded twice more. Mini-Bale scored twice.
Our U18s beat West Brom 4-0 today. Victor Zapata-Caicedo hat-trick and one from Nathan Oduwa. A very depleted team for this game, as the older players all took part in the dramatic loss to Bolton. Seems like crap scheduling. I think we're top of this group too, but the updates are extremely slow.
He's a winger and he's in double figures for goals this season, so I'd have thought so. Irish U19s international, but he's only 17 and he's got a way to go to get anywhere near the first team.
cheers.. We should fast track him to the 1st team now bale is roaming, then we have bale on the left and middle.
He's not even playing for the U21s/Reserves yet, so he's not going to get into the first team for at least a couple of seasons, in all likelyhood. Townsend or Pritchard might get that opportunity in the next campaign, if they can impress on loan. The latter picked up an unfortunate injury on loan at Peterborough, though.
Mini-Bale and Coulthirst were the only players to come out of this game with some credit. The rest should be given the mother of all bollockings for some absolutely shambolic defending and naivety. Whatever level the game is, there can be no excuse for making the same mistakes time after time in one game. Tactically, Bolton were far superior and completely exploited the enormous gaps in our defence. It's all very well to go chasing a game when you're getting beat in a cup tie at home, but that was suicidal stuff and we were well spanked. P.S. Mini-Bale didn't get 2, he only scored once.
The scheduling does seem odd. FAYC games are not given a definite date, it's a 'must be completed by' arrangement. Our game with Bolton was supposed to be done by 9th February, so obviously it took some priority, but to schedule it less than 24 hours before the same age group have a league game is certainly strange. Don't know what the story behind that one is.
Many of the players who participated in our 4-0 win over West Brom in the U18 Academy Premier League were from our U16 squad. Updated Spurs Goalscorers... please log in to view this image Tottenham Hotspur Reserves (Spurs XI), Under-21s, NextGen (U-19s) & Academy (U-18s) 2012-13
Yes, I am aware todays team contained contained players from our under 16 squad. In fairness to the club, this is the time of year when the coaches do like to start moving the best of the next age group up a level with a view to next season. Yesterdays substitute goalkeeper for the under 21's confirms my point. However, the questioning of the scheduling of this game less than 24 hours before a league game for the same age group does remain a valid one.
