I was just thinking about our squad as a whole after Tuesday nights debacle, and had the following thought... If this is our first team... Schmeichel De Laet - Morgan - Keane - Konchesky Marshall - King - Drinkwater - Knockaert Wood -- Nugent And this is our second team... Logan Moore - SSL - Whitbread - Schlupp Gallagher - Wellens - James - Dyer Waghorn -- Vardy If we were to play this second team every week, how do you think it would fare in the league? Relegation battle? Comfortable mid-table? Playoffs? Looking at it, I'd say it's almost the same level as our first team squad when we reached the playoffs in our first Championship season under Nige. Though the league seems to have improved greatly since then... Thoughts?
I think James and King are interchangable within those two line-ups. The second string still looks good at the back actually - but looks like it would struggle for goals. But whose to say if players get a good run? Difficult to say, so I'll sit on the fence and say midtable, with Charlie not being a million miles off.
I actually agree with Charles. Lower mid table, it may even flirt with relegation but it should be fine
I wouldnt even call Dyer or St. Ledger 2nd string players. Dyer and Marshall have probably both started around about the same amount of games and Ledge is more then good enough to start in the first XI. Its a case of who is in form out of Keane and St. Ledger
Kind of looks like our relegation team of a few years back- where the **** are the goals going to come there? Waghorn and Vardy? Would lose 1-0 most games.
If Waggy played the whole season he would get about 10-15, Vardy 5-10, Gally would get 10 and Dyer about 5 but apart from that the isnt enough goals throughout the team
This team alone may just stay up but as said already, where are the goals going to come from & who the hell do we have on the bench & as squad players ? If we got 4 or 5 injured players in that team, for lets say alot of the season, then things may be different & we could be winning the 1st div again the following season
I think both teams would be stronger if you swapped King and James over. The 2nd team would benefit alot more from King as he would get some goals
If we going to approach this seriously, you'd have to assume if this was our first team we wouldn't have loaned out players like Danns and Beckford who would be crucial to our survival. So you can add them to this this lineup. So the bench would be Smith, Wellens, Vardy, Futacs, Hooper, Panayiotou and Taft maybe? Show how much depth we have up front (Vardy doesn't even make my second string team!), yet how limited the quality is.
Your right, if we was fighting relegation and our squad was only as good as the 2nd string then Danns and Beckford would still be here
yeh we may have done but they would def not be up to it now, apart from maybe Dyer, the rest are next to useless
As I've said, players aren't going to look great if they're not playing regularly. I think most of that second string could do a job still, but wouldn't get us promoted, that's for sure.
In fairness to our 2nd string though if you are going to put them up against everyone else then it should also be their 2nd strings to see how good our depth truly is Charles pop your 2nd string up for us.
