I use Linux as an operating system, it saves on all this anti-virus stuff and runs a lot smoother. More people would use it if it were a bit more user friendly and more compatible with the Windows products, but for me it runs most things OK. The most-user friendly version is Linux Mint, it's a lot faster and prettier than any Microsoft product, not tried Windows 8 yet but i heard it sucks balls.
I've used Microsoft Security Essentials since its late beta phase, the second it got its full release I scrapped my paid Kaspersky subscription, never had any problems so I've never strayed from Microsoft Security Essentials. One thing I would say tho, just because you have anti virus it doesn't mean you're 100% safe, if that prize email / pop up looks too good to be true, it is.
Don't use any, they're all ****ing useless and just slow your PC down and pop up at irritating times over stupid things that really are **** all and don't need 'quarantining'. Best thing to do is just be careful what you do, try not to watch streams, don't click on adverts, DEFINITELY stay away from browser games, porn, download sites, free online movies or any videos that aren't on a big trusted provider like YouTube. Peer to peer downloading, videos and online games are the biggest threats regarding viruses.
The best thing is to get some protection, they are not all ****ing useless at all, some are better than others, but not having any is frankly ****ing stupid. Avast does not slow anything down, nor by the sounds of it does MSE...actually if you think you're safe, good luck! Oh and thinking you don't need AV because you're on Linux has got to be the funniest thing I've seen ever. I will be sharing that little gem in the office on Monday, so ta FBB.
None, I'm Apple through and through so never had to worry about them. Realise it's therefore a pointless comment but hey ho!
Whenever I've used them in the past, they've done bigger all, including the expensive ones like norton and mcaffee. They tell me I've got some spyware or malware or whatever, I clean it only for 5 minutes later the very same infection to pop up again. I just use Firefox plug ins and a firewall to see what's actually trying to bridge connections to my pc and my 5 year old pc runs smooth as a babies arse like brand new. No problems at all, clean as a pig in a house. It's like safe sex, the best protection is to avoid doing anything that could cause complications.
I always used to use AVG free which i never had any problems with, however anti virus software does not fully protect your computer and you can get some really good internet security software for reasonable prices nowadays. Using Kaspersky internet security at the moment, think it cost me around a tenner but well worth it. Runs unnoticed in the background, doesn't slow my computer down unlike McAfee and Norton.
I use AVG, which works ok for us. But always end every internet session with a scan of 'Ccleaner', amazing how much crap it finds and get's rid of.
There are about 8 Trojans that affect macs and you've got to be dim enough to download one to be affected. There are also virtually zero mac viruses as a) the base system is rock solid and b) virus creators don't bother producing them for macs as most people still use pcs and in particular windows
I run a computer shop and I use the Microsoft security essentials and be carefull on what u click on ,I tend to find that the other "free" ones that do a paid for version work ok for a few months then find a virus and then you have to pay!! A good program to get rid of crap is one called combo fix run it when u have malware/scareware and it removes it and its free too!!
