Mines cricket, closely folowed by boxing. I used to love boxing as a kid. I attended three different gyms in Ladbroke Grove, ( Dale Youth Club) East Acton ( St Aidans) and Fulham (St Edmunds ) and often crossed Bruno and Gary Mason in my day. Boxing has seemingly taken a back seat since the late nineties. So as well as playing football I took up Karate but packed that up four years ago. I'm now consigned as an armchair follower of cricket. That's middle age for you. I could gladly splay out on my sofa with copius amounts of coffee, tea, crisps and biscuits and watch a five day test match. Ball for ball. When I retire in three years I shall endeavour to follow the England cricket team on all of their exotic locations. What's your favourite second sport? Either playing or watching?
Nines, next time we are over a pint, you'll have to take me through the rules of cricket. Did google LBW when Ireland did well in some tournament a couple of years back but I'm still a dummy when it comes to cricket. 2nd sport? Tough one. My wife would say, "all the other sports"........and she wouldn't be too far off.
Traditionally cricket. Was a Lancs fan as a kid - Wasim Akram and Mike Atherton were heroes of mine. Played a small amount as a child. Leg spinner - lots of spin, a few variations but bowled too slowly. These days, not too much. Love playing pool but haven't hit a ball in anger for a while. There was a decent pub team around a couple of years ago. They practiced for the nationals - winning the top league by miles and my old team drew them in the cup. First up, the guy got to the black from the break and I cleared up. Poor guy got dropped for the second half because he lost (others missed more than him). We lost 10-1. Not always considered a sport but my best sporting moment.
For me it's golf. I know I know.............. Busted my knee 5 years ago which ended my love affair with all contact sports. Was a big fan of aikido but haven't done it in years.
I enjoy but play a terrible round of golf these days, but the best two balls that I've hit are when I've trodden on the rake in the sandtrap. I used to play rugby but succumbed to too much wine, women and song (apart from the women, that is). Nowadays, apart from the golf, I enjoy running and generally attempting to keep fit and the weight down. Just bought a rowing machine too. My midlife crisis is in full swing.
I assume you mean watching in which case tennis since Mrs RTID is a big tennis fan. Loved watching Borg in the 80's and Federer now. Was really sorry he lost to Nadal that year that would have seen him win six Wimbledon's on the trot - we will have to wait a few more decades probably to see that accomplished. If you mean playing sport then it's a jog / run for me every time. Solitude and thinking time.
Don't get me started, I love all sports and my ex used to call me 'Sport Billy'. From a historical point of view my 2nd favourite has to be cricket. I lived in Brixton during my school years and the big West Indian community there were cricket mad. I have great memories of the test matches at The Oval which were always the last test of the series and usually at the end of the Summer holidays. Brixton would move to The Oval virtually en-block for those games and the atmosphere the supporters brought to the games were fantastic. The outstanding memory was seeing the great Gary Sobers in his pomp, waiting for him to come in to bat the atmosphere was electric and he rarely disappointed, what a fantastic player he was, great batsman, superb fast bowler and also a quality spin bowler, undeniably the best all-rounder ever. What made those memories so great was the enthusiasm of the Oval crowd, an eclectic mix of so many diverse people all just wanting to enjoy themselves, Great memories. Overall I'll watch any sport that is really competitive, two sides or individuals well-matched and going for it with everything they've got...
For me its Baseball, though will watch cricket, Rugby Union and Formula 1. My team is the New York Mets, similaraties to QPR, smaller club in big city, (those darn ****ees) hated by the rest of the country just cause they are from New York, recently bought for big money a load useless bunts and for the past two years have been ****, at least there is no relegation in the US.
No wonder you are doing overtime all the time ... I was offered massive money to work on the online betting stuff 5 years ago and I refused and proud with it ... Seriously Staines mate these people i have met as awful people and the computer models you are playing since it all got opened out are very very clever. I wish you luck but there is no more human error it's shocking and under the window dressing they are making a fortune get out quick ... my lad got caught up in it and won a grand on footy outcomes ... the programs used knew this and he lost it back and more in two weeks ... i had to drop his iphone into his beer last year after a rangers match because he was tempted to go for some super five or something and a league two team scores in injury time ... he lost 400 quid and was moody as ****. He doesn't bet now i think but at times he still talks about it... landing a big score etc ... It's the worse thing out there at the moment worse than drugs
Second sport for pure entertainment on tv is the NFL for me, was a real eyeopener when I got around to learning the rules about 15 years ago. I follow the Boston teams in all other sports than NFL where Giants and Cowboys are my favourite franchises. Baseball is great too as soon as the regular season is finished. Used to follow the NHL with great intereset in the nineties, though the Bruins never won anything when I watched them some of the players like Bourque, Oates and Neely ranks as my favourites. For entertainment reasons the American sports does it for me. Second sport I play myself is tennis, great fun when you master it.
Can't stand cricket! I still race in classic touring cars and I'm a big fan of the Le Mans Series - have gone solidly to le mans every year since '93 and I'm also a big cyclist - both road and mtb Played rugby for many years until I broke my knee but still follow it closely and will be at England v France next week
Freshwater match fishing, Surfing, Skateboarding ... (Yes i still ride old skool and surf and will always do so) Past: Moto Cross. for the last year i have been doing at least 4 nights/sessions at the gym... i do 10k on the bike 30 minutes on the weights and 1k in the pool.
Like most sports (Mrs Rangercol says she's never met anyone as competitive - don't know what she means!!). Cricket (Still play in a 20/20 league, although the pace bowling has given way to some wily off spin. Tennis - have the odd game with the lad, who is pretty good. Won't be long before he's beating me. Rugby - only played at school, but love watching. Table tennis (was a good player when younger). Snooker (was a very good player when younger). Quite enjoy the big golf tournaments, especially Ryder Cup.
Golf for me. I play 2 to 3 times a week in all weathers, but I only watch European Golf as I can't stand the American commentators. Will avidly watch any golf on 3D though.
Tough one. When Living in NJ I came to really enjoy the sports there, and being a QPR fan couldn't help but support the local underdogs and became a Jets (NFL), Nets (NBA) and Devils (NHL) fan. Turned out to be a good time for the Nets and Devils and OK for Jets. When I am in NY love to watch an NFL game in an Irish bar. Miss watching the NBA/NFL though; some terrific skills and athleticism (and fights once with the NHL). When it comes to 'participating' has to be skiing (recreational only though! Just heading to Sweden for a week skiing in Tanndallen. Can't wait!!!!!!
Badminton and field hockey...played both to quite a decent level Watching rugby (but only the Welsh teams)
