Unfortunately this thread is already showing signs of degenerating into something else. I am partly to blame because I can never resist the injection of what sometime passes as humour. But the two with mutual antipathy are now doing business and the call to ban religion is my cue to move to cease participating on this thread. I've said my bit.

BR: And it's much appreciated.

Moderation.

Whilst I'm extremely interested in all comments leading to future directions on content, presentation and clues to the lines on moderation going forward, I will not have this thread used as an arena for personal squabbles of any kind.

Cheers.

I think you should mod people for trying to get around the swear filter. If I type ****, it should only be seen by those that have the filter switched off. If I type fu.ck then it will be seen by everyone, including people at work or people with kids in the room trying not to have visible swear words. I think typing the latter is wrong.

BR: See my response below.

This is an interesting debate. I come on this board to read about all things QPR and, therefore, I often ignore the OT threads. We are all free to ignore threads or posters that we are not interested in. Having said that, I think the arguably OT "If QPR were a film..." thread, for example, is excellent.

I believe that, generally, self-moderation works extremely well here but the trading of insults (whether intra QPR, or with fans of other clubs) is very boring and should be stopped either by us acting as adults or by the mods themselves. Ditto excessive swearing. Nevertheless, there are, imo, relatively few punishable transgressions and I don't believe there is anything seriously wrong that merits a change in approach.

Mods, keep up the good work and many thanks for your efforts on our behalf.

BR: Cheers Rod. Always been a fan of your contributions on here mate. Don't usually respond, but would like you to know anyway. Keep 'em coming!

Personally I’ve got no problems with this board whatsoever, and in general I don’t know what all the fuss is about.

This is a anonymous, free for all, football-based internet sports forum for goodness sake. It’s not The Daily Telegraph. The content therein doesn’t come from a team of fulltime professional journalists, overseen by another team of specialised editors and lawyers. People need to chill out and get some perspective.

The chat on here is more akin to the banter you get down the boozer after a few brews. Some of it is a wind-up, some of it is a bit saucy, and some clearly oversteps the mark. If anything though, in our little QPR forum I’m actually quite surprised by how much of it is well observed, well argued, or just downright funny.

I advise doing as RTID does, by picking and choosing what to respond to and what to ignore.

OT threads don’t bother me, so long as they don’t overwhelm the football stuff.

I never cease to be impressed by the selfless work our mods put in to make this site work, but for me, unless a post is racist, sexist or in any way actively abusive, then they shouldn’t have too much work to do really. Restraint and moderation needs to start with us, the posters. But, I also think that a few of us need to chill out a bit. <peacedove>

BR: Like the you we've come to know TIMK, very balanced and entirely rational.

Very grateful.

Thanks mate.

I'll agree with all of that.

If we can agree to it here then we should be able to enforce that caveat ourselves.

Quality post TIMK.

Are you on the wind up? Are you seriously saying that you get offended by some typing fu.ck? This is getting ridiculous.

Apart from anything else, how do you expect the Mods to enforce your proposal? Do you want Brix and Nuts sitting at their Laptops 24 hours a day scouring every post for someone who says fu.ck? And what then? Ban them? You'd have about 5 members left on the Board if you did that you plank.

Seriously, some people need to get a grip.

With a (hopefully working) swear filter in place, there's no need for the fu.cks, fecks or S****thorpes is there?

Always thought these spellings were loophole habits picked up on the old over-modded 606 and similar sites, that people haven't been able to drop.

You can choose at the bottom of the page to have swearing or no swearing, there is no need for anyone to try and bypass it. It doesnt affect me but I can see how it affects others.

Does the swear filter not work right then? Ive had it switched off from the start

Very much this.

I would only add that as a rule i do tend to enjoy the subject content of Northies animated giffs.

Swear Filter

Site's just confirmed the filter was damaged in the last 'upgrade'. It's being attended to but may take a while to fix.

My two pence worth:

I can see why Brix felt the need to put this discussion out there, as things have got a little out of hand lately imo. However, I very much agree with most comments on here that have said that, on the whole, there's not a lot wrong with the board and if it ain't broken....etc.

My two main points are:
1) Brix wrote.........."the Islamophobic undercurrents on here are unfortunately all too often palpable and wholly disproportionate"
I may have missed something of late, but I really haven't noticed any Islamaphobia on here at all.

BR: See my edited response to Swords on this on the last page. Basically I have withdrawn my observation and duly apologised.

2) I hadn't really given much thought to the fact that anyone can come on here and have a look, whatever their age. This does make me think that maybe we should have an "over 18" section within the QPR board. The Lyndsay Dawn Mackenzie thread is a good example of this for me. There was an extremely pornographic image on there and whilst I have no problem with pornography, I don't really like the idea that my 13 year old could have seen that whilst scanning through the board (which he does occasionally).
A few people have said that "we're all adults, so it doesn't matter what is posted on a thread", but if children can see it and read it, then I'd be in favour of trying to regulate things to some extent. However, I'm sure this would be very difficult to put in place and I don't suppose there's a lot that can be done about children reading some of the swear words etc......but extreme pornography could maybe be filtered to an "over 18" section?

BR: Point about kids looking in has been noted - and will be considered as part of any developments that take place as a result of this consultation.

Suffice to say that I'm very grateful to Brix and Nuts for the job they do and I'm sure they will come up with the right formula.

BR: We'll do our best (dob, dob, dob!).

Cheers Col

If a sex channel is put on here I will have a look to see exactly who the signed in mass debaters are ... I may also post up a few all male gang bangs that may sober Cerny up...

Point is here it will be abused and I hope we don't see any thing like this on this forum you are only a few clicks away from free porn anyway on the internet for those who need it

1-could have been me saying Id never go to a muslim country as a you can get four years for treading on a joint before your flight or eating a burger. I dont think thats offensive as its a statement of fact.

BR: It wasn't that. Any way, I've withdrawn and apologised for perhaps overdoing my observation.

2-I agree with you there, it didnt offend me but I thought it was too far for people who could be at work or have kids, but youve led a sheltered life if you think thats extreme, ive heard of things that id never even attempt to watch.

BR: Like what? Second thoughts, no thanks!

Well done to Brix for opening this thread - shows exactly why many, like myself like this board so much (and several of us moved here from another board at the same time) - the reason being it is a friendly and largely free and not overly moderated forum.

In terms of OT posts I dont have a problem with them, especially at times of low QPR activity. But it does get very boring and irritating tbh to keep reading the same posters arguing and moving threads away from their original topic. And it does sometimes mean I cannot be bothered to even come on here when I keep seeing that.

Largely most threads recently have been fine though - just a few that have declined into arguments.

I applaud Brix and NUTS for the job they do on here, it cant be easy! You will never please everyone I guess.

I am sure once normal service with QPR is resumed (and by that I mean regular matches to talk about) things will improve.

BR: Cheers Judo.

out of morbid curiosity I have just been looking at a couple of threads on the Swansea board. It is now clear to me that we are a model of decorum, intelligence and brotherly love. Bravo Brix and Nuts for the (relative) sanity which reigns here.

They're having a brilliant season, yet they hate each other.

BR: We're currently working with the mod board and Swansea to help them sort stuff.

(Wish we could get their help on sorting our team out though!)
