    Thought this was worth making a full article about what with the rumours swirling around about Force India, the necessity of Caterham and Marussia to be wholly funded this year by pay drivers, and the closure of HRT.
    What do we think is the main financial issue within the sport? Too much money going to too few or not enough external money coming in?

    Does the idea of a budget cap need to be brought up again?

    Who do we reckon the seven teams are - I'm guessing Ferrari, Red Bull, Lotus and Mercedes are the exemptions?

    Well thats true, anyone with 1p has more than god but unless you're buying a HRT that won't get you very far :)

    I had read somewhere last season that the typical value of sponsorship on a front running car had reduced by approximately 50%, not sure if that was purely down to demand or price. It is evident that a few cars look quite bland and examples like McLaren advertising Tooned on the rear wing is a prime example. It maybe that title sponsors with big money have a little more say in who and what advertises on the car.

    Although he had his opponents, myself included, Max Mosley's model of a Budget Cap was well-motivated. Unfortunately, his favourite team (Ferrari) were also one of the biggest obstacles to his concept, and that team's (selfish?) successful demands to continue to be treated as a special case, and to be provided with advantageous share, undermined what could might otherwise have become a co-operative for managing spiralling costs.

    I personally believe that this prospect of agreement and increased unity amongst teams may have given Ecclestone considerable cause for concern, since his policy has always appeared to me to be deliberately divisive in order to ensure his own continued control. In a buoyant market, this can still work for the teams, since they will all benefit with money pouring in. But when money is short, the lack of cohesion leaves the less wealthy out in the cold.

    Essentially the same argument applies to another vital component of this circus's machinery: the venues which clamour for the honour of hosting the events. Once again, it might be seen that Ecclestone has something to lose if circuits were to agree amongst themselves not to be played off against one-another, and thereby held to ransom…

    I know I'm in danger of sounding like a communist in the face of fascism; but a compromise between the two must be struck. Meanwhile, it seems, Bernie is content to remain in his bunker with walls crashing down all around…
