Not a lot to choose between the 2 for me. Noone can play off both flanks whereas Burkie was really only a right winger. Burkie better at getting to the byline before crossing but we have seen Noone mainly off his wrong foot on the right hand side although when he goes outside the left back he can be devastating if he can get in a decent cross. Noone has notched 4 or 5 for us this season but Burkie's goal tally at Birmingham is far better than it ever was here. Burkie is more level headed and didn't jump into rash tackles to get booked or sent off. However, while Burke covered back he rarely tackled and Noone is not afraid to get stuck in. Both useless in the air and heading generally. Both slightly injury prone but that goes with the territory of having to get past big ugly full backs. Like many of us I was sorry to see Burkie go - and such a long way too, to be closer to his family - all 100 miles. On balance for me he was/is the better of the two but we have only seen Noone for half a season so he has every opportunity to kick on and impress. I see Burkie's contract at Birmingham ends this season hence the interest from other clubs. I can't see him coming back here though.
bet he wished he'd have stayed given the relative league positions. Suppose he missed the financial struggle and manager losing his best players. Brum seem to be worse off than we were in that regard.
Noone for me Blue, Burke wanted to go back to Scotland to be close to his boy. Ended in Brum close to his bank manager.
So did I TMM (and centre back) so speak with much knowledge and hatred of nippy little wingers and quick forwards of any description - the barstewards. Who did you play for and when?
Chris Noone or Craig Burke, two footed, plays left or right. I'd take ether. Burke may get the nod though. Trying to keep a balanced side, we haven't got enough gingers.
slightly different players, if i remember burke was a hard working wideman who could cross, dribble and run 50 yards with the ball to take the pressure off the defence. noone is more exiting in the 1v1, but his all round game is not as good, and he has plenty of room for improvement in terms of shooting and strength wise, so has the potential to be better....
Sorry I haven't stuck my 2 pennorth on the thread yet Bluey, but I've been occupied fighting off the turnips over there - my my, they're a rum lot!!........ As for Noone or Burke, there's not a lot in it. I used to love the way Burkie bore down on opposition defenders by running straight at them - they used to crap themselves. The final pass or shot could be wayward, although he did score some crackers that way. Noone seems more of a natural "outside his man" winger who's change of direction and pace over the first few strides can leave his full back dead in the water. Again his finishing when he gets the chance could be a little better. At this point in time, I'd prefer Noone. I think he has more variation to his game and will improve as he plays more games in this side of ours - Burkie might have already peaked.
