With players like Guly, who aren't necessarily constant presences in the lineup but are useful, the determining factor has to be whether they want to be here in that role. If Guly's happy playing in a little more than half of our games, I'm quite happy to have him. If he wants to have a greater role than we're likely able to offer, and a team comes in for him, allow him to leave. Haven't heard any indication that it's the latter, so I'd like to have him in the squad for next year. Same applies with Chaplow...he plays very rarely, but he's perfect for situational cover with the current tactical setup.

Of the above, I'd like to keep Guly and Richardson, Chaplow if he's willing. Also wouldn't mind having Hammond back, though I suspect that he wants a more expansive role than we can offer.

Hammond asked for a move, so I doubt he'll be back.

Chaplow isn't up to it, yes he runs and hassles but that is it.

Which is useful in a reserve who would, in effect, be a fifth CM and probably sixth winger on the depth chart.

Doubt he would be happy with that, plus the wages he is on. Rather have youngsters that are around sixth back up then Chaplow.

I think I read an article a while back with Guly saying he wanted to finish his career in Brazil? Even if so, I think he'd be useful as a squad player next season and then he'll probably leave as his contract is up then.

It's a fair point, if the club is serious about cultivating their own talent then there comes a point when you need to trust them on the biggest stage. It makes no sense to keep players that are just taking up spaces on the bench and probably not quite good enough to have an extended run in the team. I would definately put Chaplow and DeRidder in that category, it is much better for themselves and the club to move on to pastures new for the long term.

Assuming we stay up I think Seaborne, Dickson, Forte, Forecast, Martin, Butterfield, Hammond, Barnard and probably Lee should all go.

Chaplow and De Ridder would be next in line and can go assuming we don't need them as cover.

Mayuka, Guly and Hooiveld can also be sold if we sign upgrades.

Billy Sharp is an odd one because (depending on other signings) I'd possibly quite like him in the squad. Having said that, I think he's likely to leave whatever happens so I haven't included him anywhere else.

True, though I doubt that Chaplow's wages are a huge impediment, in the grand scheme. Even with promotion bonuses, he probably isn't making a fortune.

Related, I'm curious how accurate this accounting might be. If it's close to accurate, the club might be within shouting distance of break-even financially even with the transfer outlays this year.

The graph is a lil messy but nice to know we have one of the lowest wage bills.

I assumed as much, but I'm surprised by that number even still...if we're really around the 35m mark, especially with a decent chunk likely to be outgoing, we have room for a pretty substantial spending binge without being financially unstable.

I saw that article yesterday as well, but isn't that figure based on last year's wages?

I think these players need to move on

Dickson, Seaborne, Martin(on loan) at least, Fox(Wages are too big for a player who really isn't good enough)Gazza on loan, Hammond, De ridder, Barnard, Forte, Lee, and Not forgetting Butterfield

I think Chaplow is a work horse and with the tactics we play.. could still be a asset from the bench at least for one more season
Richardson could do a job from the bench if need be. 1 more year only.
We need to sell our sub standard Forwards, To allow players like seager and possibly hoskins to come through!
Also What has guly done to warrent selling? He is techniqually sound and works his socks off for the team when picked, i think a deffo good enough player to come off the bench and is quite versatile.

People are failing to understand here, if we want to move forward as a club and a team, we CANNOT afford to keep people on sentiment. Aaron Martin and Richard Chaplow are simply not good enough as first team, or as back up if we are hoping to break into the top half of the table.

Don't think Chaplow is on sentiment. He runs tirelessly which is exactly what you need to play MP's style. Significant that he's been on the bench under MP but hardly got a sniff under Nigel.

He hardly does anything. It's all good running around but when you hardly ever win a 50-50 that's pretty irrelevant. He's way too lightweight for this league and lacks the composure on the ball to retain possession. League One is about his level as a starter

Baffling comment. Most people are agreeing with you! But you've not answered my point that it would cost a lot more to replace all these players with equivalent replacements than it would be to keep most of them and buy two or three better players to really improve the squad.

Cortese seems to favour buying a few good players rather than a whole new team...think this makes sense as the team know each others play and have a good team spirit. A few will go in the summer, but some will be kept as back up. Why pay out for a decent player as back up, when you have decent players already who understand the system.
