Hmm. Not doing himself any favours having a go on twitter. Just had a squint on the Liverpool board and he is getting absolute pelters both for the twitter thing but, more revealingly, for not living up to the early promise - by far the worst of their youngsters and not up to it etc etc. Watched their game last night and Jonjo was utter pants. Not alone in that by any means. But he is going downhill rapidly and the body language is not good. His England debut seems a long way away. Needs a change methinks.
I like Jonjo, but if we had an England team good enough to have a chance of winning the major Championships,he would be nowhere near the England team. Not top class.
I think we'll always think of Jonjo as one of our own, and it's always difficult to make a judgement with rose-tinted specs. He's definitely going to have a good career in the game, but the jury is still out on whether he'll be top class. In all honesty I think he moved on too soon (as much as he rates the training up in 'Pool) and he would have benefited from at least another season with us. That said, he's had some flashes of brilliance over the last year or so.
How would he have benefitted from another season with us? He wasn't in the first team or even on the bench towards the end of the season.
Finances at the time meant we had to sell him. One of Parky's biggest failings as manager with us was IMO his inability to get the best of Jonjo. Seems Rodgers is having the same problem.
No way. Bear in mind how the following season went. There's no way he would have benefitted from being part of that car crash of a season, or sitting on the bench watching Alan McCormack.....
I still wouldn't call that a car crash of a season, or at least not in the way I think you are implying it. It was perhaps a 'car crash' by the time it ended but in January we were 4th and Pawel Abbott was just finding some form.
The statement "Pawel Abbott was just finding some form" really sums up how much of a car crash that season truly was Simon Francis at RB, a midfield where Jose Semedo was seen as our stand-out start. Alan McCormack and a handful of journey-men strikers, all made to look good by (prepares to be shot down) Phil Parkinson's managerial ability and motivation.
In January we were on the way down. Maybe not as low as we finished, but no chance would that have ended any higher than about 10th. Around the same time as Powell's season fell apart, the entire top 8 went on a long winning run. Parkinson's good run after the Brighton match had come to an end with a bang against Swindon, there was no way he'd have been able to keep up with it. I disagreed with his sacking at the time, but I honestly think there is no way that Parkinson would've finished in the top 6. And Shelvey could well have been on the bench watching 'honest' McCormack through it all. With his value dropping with each match.
I missed have blinked and missed that! Cory Gibbs blinked and got injured. As for JJ, he will be fine. He looked brilliant at the start of the season- both in midfield and upfront. But that's the problem, he hasn't fully found his position.
When i've seen JJ play i have thought he looks class, just a matter of sticking at the top level and getting even better. He's up against the best and has done great i would hve thought.
