Just read on the Evening Post that our striker is banned from the UAE because of his Israeli passport. The United Arab Emirates doesn't recognise Israel as a state and has no diplomatic relations with them, as a result Itay has had to train with Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel while the rest of the squad trains in Dubai. Chico has flown out although he will not be taking part in the training sessions, and is still expected to miss the Liverpool and Final matches while Leon Britton is training and is hoping to feature in Merseyside.
The Club would have known this well in advance but imo in those circumstances we should have boycotted the trip and gone elsewhere in the face of ridiculous discrimination. The irony is that Israeli arabs are given equal footing in Israel and hold positions in the military and the government. Contrast that in arab states where there is little or no democracy for its citizens. Hypocrisy of the highest order.
I don't recognise Dubai either. Every time I fly to my house in the Philippines - I refuse to fly with any of the Middle Eastern airlines for the simple reason that I don't recognise them as civilised countries.
He's right. Any country that follows the tenets of Islam can't be civilised. Death to apostates, death to homosexuals, death to non-believers. Beating your wife is encouraged - the Qu'ran includes Suras that tell you how to do it. Women must cover faces or be prosecuted - or worse, publicly flogged. Some countries, like Egypt, are more westernised but recent changes there are very worrying and I fear the Muslim Brotherhood is going to send them back into the dark ages. I have Egyptian friends out there and they are very concerned. Growing up I was pretty anti-Israel. Then I started to read about the history and stopped believing the propoganda. Stereo is spot on.
100% agree. the club should have walked away from the trip and told them to stick it. This is or would be a moral building and recuperating excercise (before the liverpool game was re arranged), Must have done wonders for Schekter.
Politics aside i think its a sad move to have activley chosen a trip where it was obvious one of our own would be excluded as there are many other locations around the world where they could have trained as a full team, the lad must feel let down and a bit sick to be put in that position by his club !
Agreed, swanstastic. Surely someone at the club realised this could be a problem? Musty: there have been recent incidents of Sharia 'Religious Police' (vigilantes) patrolling the streets of East London and attacking Muslim women whose faces aren't covered or Asian men carrying alcohol. The police are **** scared to do anything because, yes you've guessed it, they'll be accused of racism. A 10 storey mosque gets built at Ground Zero in New York with oil money and they called it the 'Cordoba Tower'. Why? Because Cordoba in Spain was the site of the first Muslim conquest on mainland Europe and where the first European mosque was built. All this was allowed to happen because Westerners are politically correct and **** scared of being labelled racist. Makes my blood boil.
Or maybe they have realised what we have known from the start but no one had the heart to tell him. "Of course we rate you, but if you go the arabs will kick off and you know what that's like .. worse than Wind Street on a Saturday night. You have a nice rest at home and we'll talk contracts when we get back."
Have you ever been to donk land? Every one is called shunto and the film deliverance was filmed there.
