Can they afford it? I don't believe Real and Barca are bound by any kind of "normal" financial constraints. Don't they have a 'special relationship' with the governing bodies? I can't remember exactly how it works but I don't believe they even need to attempt to break even.
I can't stand that even without these reports the reaction from everyone after he has a good game is to talk about him moving. I don't know about you but I like football, the game, and as much as the sideshows like transfers, sackings, etc interest me I don't think I've ever been interested in speculating about who's going to go where in a transfer window that doesn't open for another 4 months. Until the end of the season I'd rather talk about their performances and how the player's improved their game when someone like Bale, or Suarez, or whoever is in form. There's far too little information to draw any conclusions about what will happen with Bale. My guess is that Bale make one move, as I think most of us assume so that means he'll want to be going directly to a club like Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern, United - huge clubs, basically. When he decides to do that we'll start listening to offers but until then we won't be accepting offers so it's anybodies guess when both Bale decides to leave and a club that he's prepared to go to table an acceptable offer. Knowing Levy and given the size of a potential deal I suspect it will need at least a full summer transfer window to sort out. Now lets get back to football
the thing is.......on one hand we all crave a world beater...seems like we have the makings of one. therefore when massive clubs like Real want our player...then yes we all a little...however therein lies a back handed compliment for the team we are assembling. After that whatever will be will be.
We the media have decided that all consistently good players must be sold to one of Man U, Man C, Chelsea, Barca, Real and Bayern All you other clubs must accept your role as a training academy
You mention Bale, his girlfriend and his child.Does he have any legal responsibility to this girl until he get's married? Which means he's a free spirit and can go where he likes!!!!! Sorry! I'm from the old school. You know.Married to your girl friend....and all that!Which brings responsibility and (I hope) roots. Heck,he may not like to live in Spain.....Ronaldo is pretty much at home being Portugese! I remember Jimmy Greaves moving to Italy and, although scoring lots of goals in a short time, was home sick and hated the coach!
Basing it off of this year, you're not that far off from a title challenge. If you could get a top class striker and strengthen the squad a bit, really wouldn't be much between you, City, and Chelsea. United have the Fergie factor so they'd still be ahead of you on paper.
I was listening to 606 the other night and a spurs fan called in, angry at what Savage said about Bale should leave spurs if he wants to be the best, and the caller was suggesting we're not far off a title challenge, while Savage said "man utd are 17 points clear, who are you going to sign to make up 17 points"...the spurs fan replied " we won't need to make up 17 points as we're going to be right up there"......not sure on his logic but as much as I would love us to have a title challenge, we're not close as how can we go from a team 17 points behind utd, to being capable of challenging? by spending 1.5 million on holtby? (as much as he looks a fantastic player)......Man utd spend 24 million on RVP to win the title. If in the summer we keep the squad and Levy goes out and signs a player like Falcao (its late so i can dream) or we sign a world class striker and players like Dembele improve and we bring in a full back, then who knows, but compared to our "rivals" we always look for the bargain or invest in potential while Man Utd & Man CIty buy players at their peak, as do Chelsea and we're limited to what we can do unless our owners decided to take a greater risk and I can't see that happening.
He would certainly have a legal responsibilityto his daughter, and he seem's the sort of person to them seriously.
I make the Spurs fan right. You can't take one year in isolation and say we are 17 points worse, as by that criteria there is only one team in it. If we finish the season strongly, then why not carry the momentum into next year. Last year we were title challengers for half a season, maybe AVB's plans will get us into that position for a whole season. The ironic thing about this season is that Man Utd haven't looked as good as even a couple of years ago but keep grinding out wins whereas City and Chelsea keep blowing winning positions. We are a couple players away from being as good as the other three teams.
This talk of him not moving because of his child are ludicrous. Do you really think that he's not going to take his GF and daughter with him if he's offered a chance to play for Real Madrid ? Also the numbers banded around like £70m are equally as ludicrous. As mentioned, Bale is a top player, but he needs to prove his consistency over a long period. He is worth good money, but Levy, as much as he might want to squeeze blood from a stone, got burned the last time he tried to play hard ball with Modric. Bale's transfer will probably be around 4Om and that will represent a very good deal for Spurs.
He has been awesome for 3 years. How long does he need before he is consistent? Edit: To Real Madrid scouts - Peskie is right he is ****, a diving cheating whinger who when double marked doesn't get a look in. I'd look at Walcott or Gervinho if I were you.
how did levy get burnt? he kept him for another year after modric acted like an arsehole over the chelsea ****, made his point that the player wasnt in charge, that the club would deal on its terms, and then got good money for him in the end
Levy Will play hardball, even if he didn't get more money from Real, for Modric the idea was not to sell to P/L rival's.and maybe Gareth's G/F might not want to go to Spain.Nothing is cut & dried yet.
Just ignore Piskie, apparently Bale has to leave Spurs to win trophies yet RVP was scum for leaving to do the same He always wheels out the Modric thing, like Levy cares about missing out on a couple of million as long as it doesn't strengthen a rival that tapped up our player.
Talkshite saying we'd be happy with £38m for Bale - For me, Bale is easily £55m+. 23 years old, one of the best players in the Prem and arguably the best winger in Europe, has 4/5 years left on his contract and is quite frankly, getting better and better. There's no way on earth Levy will let him go for anything in the £30s'm or even £40s'm. Only Real, PSG, City and Anzhi will be able to afford him and of those, only Real will be a viable option for Bale in my opinion. If I'm honest, I actually remain optimistic that Bale will still be here next season even if we don't get Champions League football. There's something with Bale that makes me believe he's really happy here and what with he and his partner having a baby, I'd like to think she even more so than Bale won't wanna uproot and move abroad anytime soon.
Think I worded that wrong, I know they had the kid, my brains just not functioning yet (don't comment on that ). Or maybe they really are having another! Haha, I'll claim to be psychic if it comes true.
