An elusive creature he is. The fate of an owner: John Henry tries to assuage Red Sox fans by saying he's not been to Liverpool since May. Frying pan, fire. Think it is coming to a point where he needs to maybe decide on one or the other. We start complaining, the Red Sox aren't that important, they start complaining, I haven't been to Liverpool in months. Both teams in rebuilding phases as well and just seems a lot to try and contend with. Anyone else think we might have new owners in the forseeable future or will Henry and FSG still have the hand in both pots? Edit: For all the United posters who will no doubt be on this, do the Glazers still own both United and the Buccaneers?
No I really can't see Henry selling the Redsox, and I absolutely cannot see him selling us in the near future either. I don't mind if we're priority number 2, it would be foolish and naive to think that John Henry is absolutely smitten with Liverpool Football Club and everything it stands for. We'd all love an owner like that, but this is business. We as a club were purchased as an investment, and a fairly solid investment at that considering the relatively low price the club was bought for and the branding potential that Liverpool possesses. As far as I'm concerned we can't really bemoan any of the decisions made by FSG, they all have the club's future interests at heart and they have in general been very astute (Dempsey business aside). Bored of the 'will-they-won't-they' talk on here about the owners fully committing with Liverpool. You don't spend such an exorbitant amount of money only to intentionally run a club into the ground. The Redsox are quite obviously priority number one, but as long as we continue to see progress in terms of signings and stadium redevelopment then they have my full support. What have they done wrong?
you would know better than us bluff, how much of a pull from an American point of view does baseball have, or is the idea of owning one of the best football brand clubs out there appealing from a business point of view. cant see them being bale to do both, so which one is more appealing to them, is it business (us) or pleasure (baseball)
The red sox are massive here, absolutely massive, only bested by the Yankees so the profit from that I am sure is astonishing. It is hard to tell with them, I know they are going about it a smarter more economical way but then they will come out with " we want to win, we want 4th, etc" or something along those lines but you can't help but think that in this day and age you do have to throw some cash at it. I think they have done an OK job in that regard but the players brought in have been no where near the price tags spent and I think that has been a massive stumbling block going forward in terms of players to be brought in ( Carroll, Downing, Hendo, Allen, Borini. Not saying they will or won't come good but better value was certainly out there). I think things are pulling in the right direction but you ahve to wonder why Henry would so non-chalantly ensure the Red Sox faithful that he hasn't been over to Liverpool since May, almost af it he doesn't care ( again not saying he doesn't but it can easily be read as that).
I don't think they care too much about Liverpool, but they do care alot about getting a return for their money. With the amount they've invested into buying the club and clearing the debts, they'll be here for a few more years at least to get their money back. They're not stupid; Liverpool is still a big name with big pulling power. Comercially, they can have a nice little cash cow here and building a winning team is part of that. Their idea of building a winning team seems to be selling high and buying cheap and young. A really long term plan. I don't see them selling soon. But I wish they would have someone helping to make decisions who has more knowledge and background in football other than Ian Ayre.
its just political speak to calm the natives, ''john youre not focused on the sox youre consumed with your new business'' , ''no, i havent been to Liverpool since may...''
look there are 3 key points. 1. you can never say never. 2. john henry will neve rpelase peopel unitl his teams win things. trophies are the only thing to please fans.. glory.. and when we or they don't win the first reaction is wheres the money. 3. there is only a suspicion about who's more important as henry keeps pushing both together. we played in fenway for example. if both were run entirely separately the only question is resources and in the end we all know lfc is on its own and we really hope they never take moeny out to pay for others.
probably why they want us to be self sufficient so they can put there cash into getting red sox back to the top, and hoping we can do the same sort of thing but on a budget and none of their cash. just have to hope it works, don't know what other choice we have to be honest.
Spending just over 20 million pounds in the January transfer window doesn't strike me as being particularly cost-cutting. Stop looking for controversy where there is none. I'm sure some posters on this board are only happy when they're completely ****ing miserable. Hope we lose tonight so you get to have another whinge tomorrow morning
I have thought from the day they took over that they don't really care about L.F.C. They saw a chance to buy us on the cheap, build us back up and then sell for a profit a few year's down the line.
Couldn't give a **** if he's not been over since May. Couldn't care less if he dislikes football TBH. He doesn't have to love the club or sport, its a business investment and the only way he and FSG make money is if we're successful. That'll do me
when have i ever come on here to having a ****ing whinge after losing a game, please show me. considering the amount we have saved in wages, can easily counter the £20 mill argument, also wasn't Sturiddge supposed to have happened in the Summer anyway, so that's £8 mill spent. why do they want us to be self sufficient then if they care so much?
Exactly. The only concern I have about that is the potential new owners if it comes true, we don't want all the good commercial work to be undone again. Nor do we want another H&G
'Sturridge supposed to have happened in the summer anyway' Oh okay that means that we didn't actually spend any money for him at all. I'd also like to know where your information came from regarding our transfer targets and when we originally aimed to purchase them. And they want us to be self-sufficient because thats how a businessman works. Stop romanticizing football. It's a game that billions of people watch and at the same time it's a game that many people use for their own personal gains. John Henry and FSG bought Liverpool to make a profit. They aren't lifelong Liverpool fans, they are businessmen. That doesn't mean they are evil men. Or that they intend to run us into the ground. Or that they simply 'don't care'. It means that to them Liverpool Football Club is an asset, and to maximise profits of this particular asset they need us to start winning and climbing up the league table. Incidentally, to do this they would need the team to become a much better team. Weird isn't it how they want exactly the same outcome as us when you look at it logically? Just try and think about what it is you're saying before you post. Why on earth would a businessman do anything to limit the potential value of one of his biggest assets?
It's not a big problem but it's not ideal when the owner's of the club are only concerned about profit. Do you think they would take a £60mil offer for Suarez in the summer? You can bet you're ball's they would and by selling our best players for profit we will never get anywhere near winning the league.
HOw and where would that money go is the next question. For the most part, I think it would be put back into the team.
I'm pretty sure the owners are smart enough to know that a one-off payment of £60 million for Suarez is stupid compared to the consistent money we can obtain by qualifying for the Champions League every season, something that will be much more achievable with Luis Suarez in the team. Also, bear in mind that hasn't even happened! YOU ARE MOANING ABOUT A HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION THAT IS UNLIKELY TO OCCUR. How on earth is that a reason to lose faith in FSG!? Because you think something might happen? What you seem to forget is that we both want the same things. We want success for the club we support. The owners also want success because they can then profit more financially. Why is that a problem?
