On a practise English paper i did, we had to write about a time when we were an underdog but ended up winning.

the numbers 5 and 1 appeared quite frequently...

I wanted to see if I wrote enough, they would give me a grade. Couldnt believe I got a D when people I know struggled to pass making a genuine attempt.

****ing hell I hated French, way back in middle school I was the best in the year by a mile then ended up scraping a C, damn near bottom of the (admittedly smaller) class.

For the English paper, on the argument letter, I made one of my sources the founder of HATEM (Health And Tasty Eating Matters), pretty dire, but best Newcastle reference I got in there

To everyone taking exams over the next few weeks I wish you sincere good luck, I feel as though I'm surrounded by clever people so no doubt you'll all do really well. I managed to SCRAPE 3 A levels, but it was hard, (I'm not clever) my school was all about accademia, but I was really into sport and represented my borough and county at Athletics so school came second. My gran totally disapproved, she sent her parish priest to our home to speak to my mother and myself. My Catholic school was strict, latin was on the curriculum, we were intended for law or medicine.
So here is a message for Mr Carroll, I knew I'd use it one day, "Radix malorum est cupiditas" (Chaucer "The Pardoners Tale")

Hilarious thing happened in my maths exam today. I got hand cramp so too a break from writing and was looking around the hall, when I saw the guy next to me crossing out the question and writing a new one and answering that instead <laugh> made my day.

I worked as an exam invigilator in the summer of my first year of uni, we got kept on after the exams finished to put the whole of year 10 and 11 through ALAN tests - a bigger waste of time I have never known...

The same kids would come in each day to fail again...In the end we were told to 'nudge them along' so we would sit and do the tests for them! Pretty sure it only equates to about a 10th of a food technology GCSE like!

My exam exploits were never as daring as talking about Heskey, but in first year of my English degree (which I am finally completing on Tuesday) I spent all of my time drinking, or sleeping off drink rather than reading any of the recommended literature...When it came to the exams I realised I was well and truly ****ed! Rather than give up, drop out, or descend into the depths of a My Chemical Romance cry-****, I simply learned a load of abstract, random facts.

When looking at Cormac McCathy's The Road, instead of talking about key themes or important literary techniques, I wrote about the intricacies of Hinduism and its relation to a post apocalyptic society....68% (two marks off a 1st) Martin 1: Organisation 0!
