Agree with this. Also with Obi Wan regarding losing a few games rather than cheating our way to victory.

I would rather win genuinely than feel we can only win through getting someone sent off.

Besides a great team shouldn't need to get an opposition player sent off in order to win the game.

Cheating goes against teams long term, referees make a lot of decisions on players reputation
Like tiote against Sunderland, Suarez is the prime example due to his past dives when he does get contact in the box the decision to give a penalty goes against him but another player it would have been different.
One of the reasons I miss Nolan and Carroll is they were strong leaders who were vocal against decisions against us
The people who need to change is the fa as they are to soft against the top teams, look at the arsenal players last week against stoke pushing the ref to allow the goal, imagine us doing that we would have the book thrown at us

    From the mouth of Pardew:

“You’d like to think with Yoan on one side, Ben Arfa on the other and Moussa Sissoko and (Papiss) Cisse through the middle – blimey, that’s mouth-watering for us.
I think there’s a possibility Hatem will be back for the next home game."

    Cisse
    Gouffran Sissoko Ben Arfa
    Cabaye Tiote

That midfield and attack should scare the juice out of any defence in the league. Good times.

Cheating is anti-sport. I love cheating at trivial games, more so than the next guy, but at elite competition it's not right. But there is a difference between gamesmanship and cheating in my opinion. They are humans, unfortunately, not the autobot 3000's <wah>

Cheating involves direct contravention of the rules in order to gain a significant advantage. Red Bull last year had illegal components which gave them an advantage, yet they kept it until mid-season when it was officially declared illegal, and were allowed to keep their points... That's ridiculous. Jumping over a tackle but going down is cheating, bribing refs and players is cheating. Gamesmanship involves a more subtle skill. Shouting at someone and annoying them isn't outwith the rules, unless it becomes racist or bigoted, and sneaky shirt-pulling/obstruction isn't cheating to me, nor is going to ground holding your stomach like you've been shot when you were hit on the arm. It's on the cusp of the rules and down to the interpretation of the ref, hence gamesmanship until he decides otherwise.

I don't want our players to cheat, at all. I want them to win on merit. However, when we get away with something I tend to forget about it pretty quickly...

    An outline of my cheating;

When playing a friend at Chess, snakes and ladders, monopoly etc, I will move my piece to a favourable location when they aren't looking... During Scrabble I will take a sneaky look in the bag or remove extra tiles.

Of course, it's much funnier if they notice I'm doing it, and it gives them an excuse for losing to me when I'm actually just class :emoticon-0103-cool::emoticon-0103-cool:

Cheating existing and cheating being accepted are two very different things.

    Very much This.

Let's consider the number of times players call for the throw-in to be given to them. If yhou consider that cheating, then every player would be cheating already. It's the gamemanship , part of teh agme

Yee hah cowboy! Bending of the rules is ok. My personal favourite on the niggling of opposition is the late knee into the thigh. Nobody notices it and if they do its just a ticking off. But it is very annoying. Or standing on someones toes when its cold. Or nipping someones thigh on a cold day. Nothing to do with football that last one though............
