We all know that there will be an increasing barrage of negative posts on here over the next few weeks /months which set me thinking about how we might deal with those. The most common accusation against us, the fans, is that we were arrogant and therefore deserve what we are getting at present. If arrogance is defined as daring to believe that with wealthy backers and a Chairman who seemed to âget itâ (unlike Briatore), then QPR were likely to be more successful that last yearâs 17th, than I am guilty of arrogance. This, despite my predictions that we should be aiming for 13th to 15th in the table this year! Then there is the money issue. âThe Packâ doesnât like it when one of there own aspires to greater things than is available to most. The pack closes ranks and tries to pull that individual down through negative words and actions. It always interests me that we never, or hardly ever, get critical posts from Man U, Man City or even Chelsea fans on our board. (Chelsea fans may slate us on their board but few ventured on here). To them we are not of great significance (not part of their pack) and I can see that from their point of view. Every one of the posters who criticises us about the money knows that, but for that sort of investment, their club will struggle if not this season then another. I will not mention specific clubs but there are no consistently top 8 clubs that operate on a shoestring. Please correct me if that is not true. Finally, those who post on here gloating and wishing us ill, demonstrate far amore about themselves than make any dent on us. I come on this board to discuss QPR matters with my fellow QPR fans. I am adopting a policy of just not engaging with the WUMs, negative posters and other children who want to behave like playground bullies. Thankfully there are shining examples of true sportsmen who will always be welcome on the QPR board and have earned their place by fair and intelligent posting. Well done to District Line and Fulham Traveller. I wish other fans would learn from your example. If (and I do concede that may be a significant âifâ), Tony, Amit & Co are true to their word, then this is just a blip. They may even take the time to build the new stadium in preparation for return to top flight football and hopefully address the team issues that so badly need addressing. So in summary. Arrogant? Not me. Money? Yep, we have loads of it and there seem no sign of letting up on the spending! That always makes people jealous. Wishing us ill? Classless and reveals so much more about that individual than they might imagine. Onwards and upwards, downwards or sideways. Which ever way it is, we are QPR and I am, and always will be, Rangers 'Til I Die!
Wisest policy RTID is to just ignore them. If no one replied to their posts they would soon get bored and go away
Strongly agree mate. That is certainly going to be my personal policy especially since I rarely post on other teams' fora. It gets a little bit more complex when we express strong feelings about other clubs (eg Norwich) in our posts, on our own forum!
Sounds like a good plan RTID. Regardless of other peoples opinions on where you've spent your money, there will always be a bit of envy that you are able to spend it. Regardless of how much people go on about team spirit, and young and hungry players being the way to go, quality players are still more often than not going to command a big price, and it puts a strain on many smaller clubs finances to try to square with that fact. That said there will always be bargains and teams like Swansea are showing that having a good scouting network is just as important if not more so than having lots of money. If the worst happens, and it by no means is certain yet, i think you will have a good stabilizing year in the champ, before going for the Prem with more level heads.
I agree some of our lot have been over the top but when you say "If arrogance is defined as daring to believe that with wealthy backers and a Chairman who seemed to ‘get it’" I'm afraid it's you who don't get it. A huge element within your Not606 fan base was vile towards both Norwich and Swans fans on promotion and those of you who post here regularly know it. If you say you didn't see it I'm sorry I don't believe you. It's never been about envy over money. Sorry and all that. There was bound to be a backlash.
I am trying RTID, I really am. You have to fight your corner sometimes, but there is a right way to do it and there is a wrong way to do it. Unfortunately we have a "misunderstanding" with certain posters, the thing though that we all should be aware of is that they only represent a minority of their teams fans. I beleive in the good in people and most of our fellow supporters are good honest football people that can't be bothered with the petty fighting going on. It's a shame that good threads get infested and in the end destroyed by it. Good OP, if we all could learn something from it this board will be a happier place for it.
Wish you'd get knackered of posting up your boring ****! Do one mate, no-one gives a **** what you think.
I don't remember all this animosity between QPR and Swansea existing a few years ago. I think it all arose because of the "Faulin incident". At the time that QPR were top of the Championship the press ran stories (albeit fabricated) that the Welsh clubs were calling for a points deduction, of course this quite understandably got the backs up of the QPR fans who started all the "they shouldn't even be in our league the sheepshaggers" which led to Swansea retaliation and now we have this Yugoslavia type situation where everyone hates each other and can't remember why. I certainly never heard anyone here in Swansea calling for a points deduction, in fact people were saying that if there was, whoever won the Championship it would be a hollow victory for them and QPR deserved to on merit. As a neutral who reads the boards of both clubs on here I can say I find 95% of QPR fans seem pretty decent, same as 95% of Swansea fans, unfortunately there are a handful on both sides who seem to revel in all the ****stirring that has been going on this last week, I think the silent majority are looking in cringing at the things being said, probably too frightened to say anything positive about the other side as they'd just get cyberbullied by the vociferous minority. I can also say that since moving to Swansea from Birkenhead 26 years ago I can count on one hand the times I've ever experienced any anti-English sentiments, the people here have always been friendly and welcoming to me and I can never understand where all this English/Welsh friction is, I never see it.
You have to go to the Valleys to get that anti-English stuff. I will even say this for Cardiff, the two big cities are somewhat receptive of England but we do of course like the banter. We understand that there is a level of subsidisation from the Government and that independence would be the most ridiculous course of action. About 25% of people living in Cardiff are English anyway, while Swansea has less there are more and more people moving there from across the border. But saying that the Valleys are anti-English is not the whole story, with me being born and bred Swansea, living their all my life, I too am treated like an outcast when I go to those places and can find myself getting hurled abuse for being a city boy.
This is how I see it as well. The press really stirred that story up to be more than it was (The Sun being the worst offender). In turn, it pitted fan against fan, which slowly dragged more and more people into the silly feud as more and more 'normal' fans grew annoyed with WUMS on both sides. The WUMS and the press are to blame, but it's gone on for so long that normal fans think all fans on the other side are a little annoying which is just crazy! As a 1/4 English, 1/4 Welsh mongrel, who was raised in London, but spent many happy summers in South Wales, I think it's such a shame. QPR could learn a lot from Swansea.
Maybe we could start a 'Truth and Reconciliation' thread? Who gets to play Nelson Mandela?!! Nice post.
WS i don't think the Swans fans were asking for a points deduction or mocking us at that time. All the hate came from Norwich and Reading fans. this Swans/QPR thing only stated a season ago and just recently. most of us a big enough and ugly enough to take stick but when it gets nasty like 'wanting us to get liquidated' or getting 'racist' like Dillgafs post yesterday then that's a step to far.
I agree, these people who pop in to merely be a tit to the QPR brigade need a word with themselves. please log in to view this image
