Fair enough, but I'm a 6"4, pretty well built guy and if somebody like Adam El-Abd ran at me, I'd probably get knocked out the way. It was a foul, no question about it, but I think the bigger problem is that it was that goal that decided the game. We should have put it to bed and we didn't and got punished. For me, it was a waste of time even turning up. The players didn't look arsed, Brighton were making passes that even Conference standard players would have intercepted, but we stood back. I don't know why we stand off so much; we need to get stuck in a lot more. Meyler did ok breaking up a bit of play, but the whole team needs to be working hard to get those second balls, rather than just watching and marking zonally. We need to get real, we aren't going to get promoted playing like that and even if we did, we'd struggle to win even one game if that's our attitude. Here's hoping a run of 3 consecutive home games can sort us out and get our promotion bid back on track.
You can be as big as you like if you're paying as much attention to the play as Evans was, but if he was switched on I think he'd have been fine.
Attwellwill always be remembered for the "goal that never was" for Reading against us a fair few seasons ago and he should never been allowed back to ref in league football again - pub football is about that cocks level. I watched the push on the wall with a touch of déjà vu - happened to us against Man Citee in the 3rd round. Seems to be a new tactic...probably started by that cheating bastard Robert Huth
It's not a new tactic - I first remember it being used by Jimmy Greenhough for Man Ure in th 1970's / 80's
FFS, Dont blame Attwell. Everyone knows he is crap but it was not his fault that our wall crumbled so badly.
I hate that too. When someone goes down over an outstretched leg rather than actually being fouled they always say "He's got a right to go down." Has he ****. Anyone who chooses to go to ground is cheating. Free kicks and penalties should never be a choice, they are a consolation. Attwell is a total joke though. Refereeing is hard and bad performances are common but this guy takes the piss. He's absolute ****e every time we get him. How many times yesterday did our shots get deflected out by a defender and he didn't even notice and gave a goal kick? How many free kicks just as blatant as the Evans one for Brighton's winner did we somehow manage not to get? He needs to just **** off from football he's cost us so many points over the last few years.
Mike Jones was the ref in the burnley game a couple of years ago when geos free kick got disallowed. He is a terrible ref too....
Stop talking sense. City fans want to wallow in self pity, don't you see. It was poor defending to give away the freekick and awful that we let the ball through the wall. It was unfortunate that Stockdale made an error. These things happen, just look at Hart's error yesterday and all. Atwell was crap for both teams.
Even in the wacky world of football, no-one is stupid enough to appoint Attwell as a referee for a Watford game again. So unless I'm wrong, long may his career in the higher divisions of English football continue
I wonder what the reaction would have been had Jako been in goal? I think he'd have gotten lots of abuse.
You're probably right, although Stockdale has been consistent when playing for us. Jakupovic is a back up keeper and I would be amazed if we offered him a new deal
We certainly won't offer him another deal, but we're still stuck with him for another season(unless we can ship him out obviously).
the only correct statements you made was Atwell being crap for both teams and giving the free kick away. The goal should of been disallowed FACT. You can not barge a player out the way like that. The twat should of been yellow carded.
Was that the one in 2008/2009 were he sent off one of there players after a Dean Marney dive to get some kid his second yellow? Or am I getting mixed up with a different home game that we also lost on our great run in the second half of that season..
You really are a silly **** at times, it WAS his fault, TOTALLY HIS FAULT, that he didn't blow up for a foul thereby justly denying Brighton the winning goal. F F S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it didnt look a well taken free kick from where i was sitting, a comedy of errors from the wall to what looked like it rolling under stockdale ( but to be fair he may have seen it late). Although we lacked fire power up front their keeper pulled of 3 good save plus a worldy that he pushed around the post. Another day it could of been different.
